Murnovo - Virnikov Grintovec (pot ni več prehodna!)

Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway we take the exit Kranj - east and continue on the road towards Jezersko. In the hamlet of Bajte, which is located approximately 1 km past the Kanonir inn, we turn left towards the Krtina hospital, onto a narrower asphalt road, which we then follow to the first intersection. Here we continue right towards the Spodnji Virnik farm (straight ahead the lehnjak quarry and Krtina hospital). The road that continues ascending along the Murnov graben stream loses its asphalt surface and gradually begins to ascend more and more steeply. Soon we reach the next intersection, where we continue on the right road (straight ahead Spodnji Virnik). We then follow the ascending road to a larger meadow, where left below the road we notice the Murn homestead. We continue for another few 10 m and the road takes us to an intersection where we see signposts for Virnikov Grintovec. Here we continue very sharply right and then a little higher park at a suitable place by the road.

From the starting point we descend a few steps, then turn onto the footpath towards Virnikov Grintovec. The path ahead ascends along the edge of the forest, turns slightly right higher up and enters dense forest, where it continues in a transverse ascent to the right. After a few minutes of easy walking the path ascends a little more steeply for a short time, then brings us to a marked junction where we join the marked path from Zgornje Jezersko.
At the junction we continue sharply left and continue the ascent on a pleasant forest path that higher up levels out completely and turns slightly right, where it crosses the slopes of Žarkove peči (1411 m). After a few minutes of easy walking we step out of the forest onto a larger clearing (Žingerc saddle 1345 m), where the path from the Austrian side joins from the right.
We continue towards Virnikov Grintovec on a path that enters the forest, but it begins to ascend more and more steeply. The rather steep path higher up brings us to the main ridge, where it turns left. On the ridge, from which beautiful views of the surrounding peaks open up, the steepness also eases. We follow this occasionally very scenic and in places dangerously slippery path (in dry conditions there is no greater danger) all the way to the summit of Virnikov Grintovec.
