Access to starting point:
A) From Kočevje we go towards the border with Croatia, on the main road GII-106. After the settlement Štalcerji we turn right in the direction of Kočevska Reka, Novi Lazi. Novi Lazi is the next settlement; after the sign we turn right into the village and after 30 meters we park at Vaški dom on the right side, at the turn-off of the forest road.
B) From Ljubljana, we drive in the direction of Kočevje; after Dolenja vas we turn right at the turn-off for Grčarice and Kočevska Reka. We pass Grčarice and Gotenica and arrive at Kočevska Reka. We turn left, in the direction of Kočevje; Novi Lazi is the next village after Kočevska Reka. When we arrive in the settlement, we turn left behind the bus station into the village and after 30 meters we park at Vaški dom on the right side, at the turn-off of the forest road.
Path description:
We start on the forest road which branches off to the right from the local road through the settlement just before the village hall. First, we slightly descend; on the right we see the village pond (luža). We then continue through the forest; at the first crossroad we stick to the right road. We continue on the forest road, and after approx. 1.5 km it starts ascending left on the slope of the hill. We continue on the road to the top of the ascent. When the road flattens, a logging trail branches off on the right.
On this logging trail we continue straight upwards on the hill, sticking to the edge of a smaller valley which opens on the right. The logging trail then crosses a smaller meadow and turns to the right, then flattens for 20 m before turning again to the left and upwards. Another approx. 100 m and we come again to the forest road.
We only cross this road; on the other side we step again onto the logging trail, which splits right after the road. We can continue either on the left or on the right logging trail. The left ascends in a zigzag, the right leads us straight upwards; both join again at the edge of a larger clearing. Here it is always muddy, where we can track wild animals that feed here. From this crossroad several logging trails lead off. The left ascends along the edge of the clearing to the left side. The right leads mostly straight. We take the middle one, which slightly ascends the hillside so that we have the hill on our left side. After approx. 150 m it slightly flattens again, then ascends again; from the right another logging trail joins it. We turn left, or from this crossroad we can also continue straight upwards pathless through the forest, as approx. 50 m higher there is again a forest road, the so-called circular road that leads around Fridrihštajn.
When we reach the forest road, we follow it to the right and circle around. First, the marked path from Štalcerji joins from the right. From here the path is marked. We continue along the road until the path to Livoldski vrh branches off to the right. On the marked path we ascend first to a smaller saddle, then along the ridge to the left to the summit itself, with the logbook box.
Since there is no view from the summit, I recommend descending along the ridge another approx. 100 m to the vantage point from which the entire Kočevje valley can be seen.
