Access to starting point:
We drive on the Adriatic main road between Novi Vinodolski and Senj. In the settlement Klenovica, which is situated just beyond Novi Vinodolski, signs direct us to the left (or right, if coming from the direction of Senj) toward Krmpota and Alan. The road ascends steeply and winds through a few hairpin turns. After approximately 10 kilometers, we reach a crossroad where a road branches off to the left toward Luka Krmpotska and Omar. We turn onto it and soon turn right onto a narrow asphalt road toward the Glass chapel, Nebeška vrata, and the Sviba viewpoint. We drive past the turn-off for Kolovratske stijene to the parking lot at the end of the village, where we park.
Path description:
From the starting point, we head toward Nebeška vrata and the Sviba viewpoint. We walk along a cart track through meadows and reach Nebeška vrata, which are on the left side, in 5 minutes. Soon the cart track begins to ascend through a pine forest, and we quickly arrive at the saddle between Mala Sviba and Velika Sviba. Here a cairn directs us left onto a barely visible footpath. Following the cart track leads to a small barn on the western side of Mala Sviba. We continue toward the summit and reach Velika Sviba in 5 minutes, where a panoramic view opens up in all directions.
The description and pictures refer to the condition in November 2024.
