Ortnek - Ortnek Castle

Access to starting point:
a) From Ljubljana we drive towards Kočevje, but only to the village of Ortnek. Here at the end of the settlement we turn right, cross the railway line and park by the old petrol station.
b) From Kočevje we drive towards Ljubljana, but only to the village of Ortnek, where we turn left, cross the railway line and then park at the old petrol station.

Route description:
Between the abandoned station and the railway station, at the siding of the railway line we will notice a forest road that goes past a house into the forest. After just a few meters of ascent we notice the first markings and a sign informing us that we are entering a bear area.
The road that ascends moderately takes us after 5 minutes of ascent to the first junction, where we continue on the right marked road. The road ahead initially ascends somewhat more steeply, then levels out and takes us to a marked fork, where we continue sharply left in the direction of Ortneški grad (straight ahead Sveti Gregor). From the increasingly poor and steeper road higher up a view opens towards the village of Sveti Gregor and the surrounding hills. The road, which in the final part turns more and more to the left, takes us in a few more minutes of walking to the spacious summit. Here on the left side we will notice the ruins of the Old Ortneški grad, on the right a large meadow at the end of which is the PTV station with a stamp and registration box.
