Panoramarestaurant Oben - Velika glava (Peca)

Access to starting point:
a) Via the border crossing Jezerski Vrh we drive into Austria, then after approximately 6 km past Železno Kaplo / Bad Eisenkappel we turn right towards Velikovec / Völkermarkt (also possible via the border crossing Ljubelj). We follow the main road towards Velikovec for 2 km, then we turn right again, this time in the direction of the settlement Pliberk / Bleiburg. Further, we drive through the valley of Podjune, then at the next larger intersection we turn right towards Pliberk. The road leads us through some roundabouts, and we continue to follow it in the direction of the ski area Peca / Petzen. Further, we drive through Bistrica pri Pliberku / Feistritz ob Bleiburg to a large parking lot at the bottom station of the cableway to Peca. From the border crossing Jezerski Vrh to the starting point it is approximately 40 km.
b) From Slovenj Gradec we drive to Ravne na Koroškem, then we continue driving towards the border crossing Holmec. When we drive into Austria we first drive towards Pliberk / Bleiburg, then we follow the signs for the ski area Peca / Petzen. Further, we drive through a few villages, and we follow the road to a large parking lot at the bottom station of the cableway to Peca. From the border crossing Holmec to the starting point it is approximately 8 km.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we walk to the bottom station of the cableway to Peca, buy a ticket, and take the circular cabin cableway to the upper station of the cableway, which is located by the Panorama restaurant Oben.
From the restaurant, we head onto the path marked with number P4, which leads us along the left side of the chapel of St. Anne, where we initially walk on a macadam road, then continue on a path alongside the ski slope, and higher up, also on the ski slope. From the ski slope route, we turn left before the steeper section, where we briefly enter the forest. In the forest, the path turns to the right and soon returns to the ski slope, along which we continue to the upper part of the ski slope at an altitude of 1920 m, where the path splits.
We continue slightly left in the direction of path number P4 (slightly right is path P5 and the old cottage) and begin ascending through dwarf pines. Higher up, the path flattens, then continues without significant changes in altitude to the national border, where a marked junction is located. We continue left toward Kordeževa glava (right Bistriška špica), and at the next junction with red mountain direction signposts, we turn left again toward Kordeževa glava (right Kumer). A short descent follows, and we arrive at Knipsovo sedlo, where the path from the Topla valley joins.
On the saddle, where there are information boards, we continue straight on the barely visible and unmarked path (right Kordeževa glava, left Bistriška špica). After a few steps of walking, on the right side we notice a narrow clearing through dwarf pines, along which a poorly visible footpath runs. We head onto the mentioned path, along which after a good 10 minutes of ascent we arrive at the top of Velika glava.
