parking below Weinebene - Großer Speikkogel (Koralpe) (via Grünangerhütte)

Access to starting point:
A) Via one of the border crossings with Austria (Korensko sedlo, Karawanks Tunnel, Ljubelj Pass, Jezerski vrh Pass, Pavličev vrh Pass), we drive into Austria, then continue driving on the so-called southern motorway towards Graz. On the mentioned motorway we drive to the town of Volšperk / Wolfsberg, where we leave the motorway, and then, upon arriving at the old or regional road, we continue driving towards St. Gertraud. In St. Gertraud we notice signs for the Alpine pass Weinebene, which direct us right onto an ascending asphalt road. On the mentioned road we drive approximately 18 km, then we arrive at the mentioned Alpine pass, which is situated at an altitude of 1668 m. From the pass we begin descending towards Lonč / Deutschlandsberg, but we park just a little after the left hairpin turn on the marked parking lot on the right side of the road.
B) Via the border crossing Holmec or Vič we drive into Austria, then continue driving towards Volšperk / Wolfsberg. From Volšperk we continue on the regional road towards St. Gertraud. In St. Gertraud we notice signs for the Alpine pass Weinebene, which direct us right onto an ascending asphalt road. On the mentioned road we drive approximately 18 km, then we arrive at the mentioned Alpine pass, which is situated at an altitude of 1668 m. From the pass we begin descending towards Lonč / Deutschlandsberg, but we park just a little after the left hairpin turn on the marked parking lot on the right side of the road.
C) First we drive to Maribor, then continue on the motorway towards the border crossing Šentilj and further on the Austrian motorway towards Graz. We leave the mentioned motorway at the exit for Lipnica / Leibnitz. When exiting the motorway at the roundabout, we continue towards Lipnica / Leibnitz and then drive south of the village Gralla, which today is already a peripheral part of Lipnica. Further, the road leads past the industrial or commercial zone, but at the roundabout by the Hofer store we continue "straight" on the second exit towards Lonč / Deutschlandsberg. Further, we drive for some time on the main road, then after the village Graschach we turn right towards Lonč / Deutschlandsberg. At the roundabout right next to Lonč / Deutschlandsberg, we continue "straight" towards the Alpine pass Weinebene. From here the road begins to ascend more steeply, we follow it for approximately 17 km, then just before the right hairpin turn we notice the parking lot on the left side, where we park.

Path description:
From the parking lot, head onto the side road towards the Grünangerhütte hut and Bärentalalm pasture; this crosses the slopes below the main road. The asphalt on the side road soon ends and we reach a junction, where we continue on the upper right road (a slightly left road leads to one of the paths to the Grünangerhütte hut). There follows some ascent, and from the right the path from the Reihkehre - Glashütten parking lot joins us, located above the hairpin turn mentioned in the access to the starting point. There follows some more traversing, mostly in a gentle ascent, then the path splits again.
This time continue slightly left towards the Grünangerhütte hut (straight to Bärentalalm) and proceed on the cart track that crosses slopes to the left. Soon cross a nearby stream over a bridge, then continue for a few minutes through the forest. Later reach the turning area of the forest road, continue along it, descending for a few minutes on the road. Lower down, the markers direct us right from the road onto a cart track, ascend through the forest, which turns into a path, quickly arriving at the Grünangerhütte hut.
Behind the hut, continue right and ascend on the marked footpath. After a few minutes of ascent through sparse forest, reach a small junction, continue straight towards the path over Steinmandl. A little further, cross the pasture fence, behind it continue a few minutes of ascent through the forest. Leaving the forest, cross the forest road, immediately above the road the path splits.
Before crossing the pasture fence, go right, where the marked path to Steinmandl summit continues (straight is an unmarked path to nearby Loskogel). There follows some steep ascent along the forest edge, then the path levels out and transitions to the indistinct ridge of Steinmandl peak, where from the right the path via Bärentalalm pasture joins, which is a few minutes shorter than ours.
From here a short moderate ascent follows, and with fine views we reach an interesting peak with cairns.
From the summit a gentle descent follows, then gradually ascend along the fence, with Hühnerstütze peak ahead. The path leads past the branch for Zwergenstein, then turns slightly left and begins crossing the slopes of Hühnerstütze peak to the left. A longer easy ascent follows, and with ever better views we reach the junction on the indistinct saddle between Seespitz and Hühnerstütze peaks.
Here continue straight or slightly left towards Großer Speikkogel peak (sharply right to Hühnerstütze, Weinebene pass and also our starting point) and continue easily ascending, the path bringing us to the western slopes of Seespitz peak.
For a few minutes cross somewhat steeper slopes of the mentioned peak, then reach Seespitzsattel saddle, where the path past Schäferkreuz cross joins from the right.
Continue again towards the highest peak of the range, traversing up the slopes of Kleiner Speikkogel peak; after a few minutes of traversing ascent, reach the main ridge on the saddle between the two highest peaks of Golica.
Here go right (left to Kleiner Speikkogel) and in a few minutes ascend to the summit, where a cross stands, and a little further two radars.
