parking below Weinebene - Steinschneider (above Pomswasserfall)

Access to starting point:
A) Via one of the border crossings with Austria (Korensko sedlo, Karawanks Tunnel, mountain pass Ljubelj, mountain pass Jezerski vrh, mountain pass Pavličev vrh) we drive to Austria, and then we continue driving on the so-called southern motorway towards Graz / Graz. On the mentioned motorway we drive to the place Volšperk / Wolfsberg, where we leave the motorway, and when we get to the old or regional road we continue driving in the direction of the place St. Gertraud. In the place St. Gertraud we notice signs for the alpine pass Weinebene, which point us to the right on an ascending asphalt road. On the mentioned road, we drive approximately 18 km, and then we get to the mentioned alpine pass, which is situated at an altitude of 1668 m. From the pass, we start descending towards the place Lonč / Deutschlandsberg, and only a little after the left hairpin turn we park on a marked parking lot on the right side of the road.
B) Via the border crossing Holmec or Vič we drive to Austria, and then we continue driving towards the place Volšperk / Wolfsberg. From Volšperk we continue on a regional road in the direction of the place St. Gertraud. In the place St. Gertraud we notice signs for the alpine pass Weinebene, which point us to the right on an ascending asphalt road. On the mentioned road, we drive approximately 18 km, and then we get to the mentioned alpine pass, which is situated at an altitude of 1668 m. From the pass, we start descending towards the place Lonč / Deutschlandsberg, and only a little after the left hairpin turn we park on a marked parking lot on the right side of the road.
C) First, we drive to Maribor, and then we continue driving on the motorway towards the border crossing Šentilj and further on the Austrian motorway towards Graz / Graz. We leave the mentioned motorway at the exit for the place Lipnica / Leibnitz. When we leave the motorway at the roundabout, we continue in the direction of the place Lipnica / Leibnitz and further we drive south from the village Gralla, which is today already some kind of peripheral part of Lipnica. Further, the road leads us past an industrial or commercial zone, and at the roundabout by the Hofer store we continue "straight" on the second exit in the direction of the place Lonč / Deutschlandsberg. Further, we drive for some time on the main road, and after the village Graschach we turn right in the direction of the place Lonč / Deutschlandsberg. In a roundabout right next to the place Lonč / Deutschlandsberg, we continue "straight" in the direction of the alpine pass Weinebene. From here on, the road starts ascending steeper, and we follow it approximately 17 km, and then still before the right hairpin turn, on the left side we notice a parking lot, where we park.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we go on a side road in the direction of the mountain hut Grünangerhütte and mountain pasture Bärentalalm, which crosses slopes below the main road. The asphalt on the side road quickly ends and we get to a junction, where we continue on the upper right road (on a slightly left road leads one of the paths to the hut Grünangerhütte). Some ascent follows, and from the right joins also the path from the parking lot Reihkehre - Glashütten, which is situated above the hairpin turn mentioned in the access to the starting point. Some more crossing follows, mostly in a gentle ascent, and then the path once again splits. To the left another path branches off towards the before-mentioned hut, and we go slightly right and continue on the macadam road, which ascends a little steeper, and on it in a few minutes we get to the hut Bärentalhütte.
We bypass the hut on the right side, and on the road we continue to the nearby junction at the grazing fence, where we go slightly right (straight Grünangerhütte and Steinmandl). A little further, we go even a little more to the right, and then through part of the mountain pasture Bärentalalm we ascend to the edge of the forest, where the path steeply ascends through a belt of forest. After a few minutes, the steepness eases, the path turns a little to the left and on the saddle between the peaks Hühnerstütze and Moschkogel reaches the road which leads from the pass Weinebene.
On the saddle, where there is a marked junction we arrive from Austrian Steiermark to Austrian Kärnten, and we continue straight on a cart track which crosses slopes to the right (cart track for a short time isn't marked, because the marked path leads right to the nearby hut Grillitschhütte and from there back on the cart track, the path left along the fence continues towards the summit Großer Speikkogel - panoramic path, sharply right pass Weinebene).
For a few minutes we cross slopes below the summit Hühnerstütze (1989 m), and then we get to the cross Schäferkreuz, where the already-mentioned path past the hut Grillitschhütte joins us. Here we continue straight and in a few minutes we get to an indistinct saddle between Hühnerstütze (1989 m) on the left and the summit Sprungkogel (1868 m) on the right.
On the saddle there is a marked junction, where we continue straight in the direction of the hut Großhöllerhütte (left Gr. Speikkogel), and only a little further on a rock we notice signs that the path once again splits. A wide path on the cart track crosses the grazing fence and continues towards the hut Großhöllerhütte, but we continue slightly left in the direction of Pomswasserfall. Some diagonal descent follows on a partly pathless but marked path, and lower we join a somewhat longer path that leads past the hut. Lower we cross the macadam road twice more, then we cross the stream Rassingbach, which we cross somewhat above the waterfall Pomswasserfall.
On the other side of the stream, we join one of the paths from the starting point at the inn Gasthaus Waldrast, but we continue straight in the direction of the plateau Großes Kar and the hut Koralpenhaus. An ascent through a belt of forest follows, then the path levels out and leads us partly across quite marshy meadows. The path soon becomes steeper again and also increasingly panoramic. Higher up the path leads us along a mountain stream, which past the bivouac Hotel Kar brings us to a junction, where we join the path that leads across the eastern part of the plateau.
Here we continue right in the direction of the hut Koralpenhaus and cross the last streamlet, then we start to ascend more steeply on the also steeper slope.
After a few minutes of steep diagonal ascent we reach the wide northern ridge of the summit Steinschneider, along which we continue an increasingly panoramic ascent. The path and ridge then turn somewhat to the left, and we quickly reach the 2070 m high summit Steinschneider.
