Planina Blato - Škednjovec (on west ridge)

Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, take the exit Lesce towards Bled and continue towards Bohinjska Bistrica. Continue driving towards Lake Bohinj (Ribčev laz), where we come to a crossroads, crossing the bridge at the church of St. John and continuing right into Stara Fužina. Here at the crossroads at the chapel, turn sharply left onto the ascending road towards mountain pasture Blato, mountain pasture Vogar and Voje valley. The road brings us to the spot where road toll and parking fee are collected, but we follow it further to the next crossroads, where we continue left (right Voje). At the next crossroads after some time, turn sharply right in the direction of mountain pasture Blato (straight to mountain pasture Vogar). Follow this road to the parking lot above mountain pasture Blato.

Path description:
From the parking lot, continue on the macadam road, which past the gate in a few steps brings us to a right turn. Here on the right, a few meters above the road, is the start of the hunting path, which with the aid of an aluminum wire leads us across a short very steep slope. The path soon enters the forest and turns slightly to the right, where it soon crosses a wide cart track (cairn). Further, follow the path through the forest, which ascends parallel to a relatively steep cart track. Higher up, the path turns left, and from the right a path joins it that leaves the cart track approximately 15 minutes above mountain pasture Blato.
The hunting path continues through the forest with some shorter steep ascents and after a good hour of walking brings us to a small hunting hut on the left side of the path. From the hunting hut, the path soon exits the forest, where it rejoins the cart track. Then follow just over five minutes of walking to mountain pasture Krstenica, where a beautiful view opens onto Ogradi, Krn, and Lower Bohinj Mountains.
From the mountain pasture, continue along the path on the western (left) side of the mountain pasture. Already after a few dozen meters, several smaller paths merge into one well-visible path. The path ahead, with some shorter ascents and descents, crosses the slopes of Krsteniški and Jezerski Stog. After approximately half an hour of walking from mountain pasture Krstenica, the path brings us to the grassy terrain of abandoned Planina Jezerce.
At the trough with water, ascend a few dozen meters right upward toward Jezerski preval. Here, leave the marked path and head left into a small valley below the scree, where we notice an unmarked path. The path, which first gently ascends, then in a gentle descent crosses the slopes below the cliffs on our right side. Somewhat further, the path turns right and begins to ascend along a locally poorly visible path. The path then brings us across a series of small valleys below the slopes of Prevalski Stog. Here ahead of us we notice Mišeljski preval, located between Škednjovec on the left and Prevalski Stog on the right. The path, which steeply ascends in the last meters, brings us to the mentioned saddle. Below the saddle, we reach the marked path that comes from the left, from Lazovški preval between Ogradi and Debeli vrh. Follow this path downhill toward Lazovški preval for a few minutes to the cairn-marked junction to the right into the valley between Debeli vrh and Škednjovec. (Possible is an approximately equally long, more direct and pathless variant, which we start sharply left at a suitable spot soon after first sighting Mišeljski preval, among grassy hollows, dwarf pines and upward until we reach the marked path between the saddles and the junction into the valley). In this valley at the foot of the south wall of Škednjovec, we ascend toward the pass between Vrh Hribaric and Škednjovec. We can walk on the scree or climb on our own to the ridge on the left side and along it to the pass. At the pass, first enjoy the fantastic view to the north that opens up (Kanjavec, Mišeljski Konec, Triglav, Rjavina, Mišelj vrh, Vernar, Tosc etc. as if on the palm of the hand), then helmet on the head and begin carefully climbing the western ridge. Some cliffs we bypass on the right, mostly following the sharp, exposed, locally overhanging and crumbly ridge to the summit. On the summit is a small cairn.
The tour is very demanding, orientationally complicated. Mihelič recommends rope and guide accompaniment. Careful especially on the descent.
Note: From mountain pasture Blato to mountain pasture Jezerce is an easy unmarked path, from Jezerce to the junction with the marked path a poorly trodden path, from the cairn through the valley a well-visible path marked with rare cairns, climbing along the left side of the valley is more route-finding, western ridge is grade I with some spots of 2nd difficulty grade.
Times: Blato - Krstenica 1:30, Krstenica - Jezerce 30 minutes, Jezerce – Mišeljski preval 1 hour, Mišeljski preval – pass between Škednjovec and Vrh Hribaric 1 hour, pass – western ridge - summit 30 minutes.
