Access to starting point:
First, we drive to Tolmin, from there we follow the road in the direction of Zatolmin (main road we leave at the traffic light). In Zatolmin we notice signposts for Javorca, which point us on an ascending road towards Javorca. Occasionally quite narrow and in parts precipitous road after approximately 8 km of driving brings us to a smaller crossroad, where the road towards Javorca branches off to the left upwards. We continue straight and after a few dozen meters, we will notice a signpost for the village Čadrg on the right side of the road. Here is the beginning of the footpath. The marked parking lot is situated approximately 100 meters further along the road.
Path description:
If we've parked at a marked parking lot, we return along the road approximately 100 meters to a signpost for Čadrg. The signpost directs us downward onto a narrow footpath that descends towards the river Tolminka. After the descent through the forest, the path brings us to a bridge over which, at our own responsibility, we cross the river Tolminka. On the other side of the Tolminka, the path initially ascends somewhat steeply, then continues for some time, crossing occasionally quite steep slopes towards the south. From the path, beautiful views open up here on the nearby peaks above the Tolminka valley. Such a path then leads us past the upper station of a cargo cableway to the Podlogar farm, where there is a junction with signposts.
We continue in the direction of the village Čadrg, and after a short ascent, the path leads us into the forest where there is another junction. Both paths lead towards the village Čadrg. We head to the left, which is steeper and slightly less trodden. From the crossing, we start ascending a narrow footpath in the direction of the northeast. The path runs through the forest, so it offers little in the way of views. On our right and below us, we can hear and occasionally see the stream Podpasica. We continue ascending through the forest and, at a short section, cross a slightly steeper slope. Higher up, the path becomes less steep and leads us to a crossing. We continue to the right, where a caption on a rock directs us. The left path also leads toward the village Čadrg, though it is slightly longer.
From the crossing, mostly through the forest on a slightly less trodden path, we cross a slope. This path then leads us to a cart track. We continue to the right on the cart track, which soon starts ascending and then crosses a grazing fence. Next follows a climb over a grassy slope, after which the cart track crosses the fence again and leads us to a crossroad.
To the right, the cart track leads toward the village Čadrg, and to the left, toward the vantage point Žlejžn. We head left and continue on the cart track, which later passes by benches with a table, where there is also an information board about karst ponds (small and shallow hollows on karst ground, filled with water). The path then leads us past a lime kiln (kiln for burning lime), beside which there is another information board. Follows only a gentle ascent on a grassy slope, which leads us to the vantage point Žlejžn. At the vantage point, offering a beautiful view towards the Tolminka valley and the nearby peaks above it, there are also benches with a table and another information board.
We can descend via the ascent route or return to the village Čadrg, where a signpost for Javorca directs us back toward the starting point. The second option is to continue from the village Čadrg toward Planina Prode and return from there to the starting point at Planina Polog.
