Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice highway we take the Lesce exit and follow the road in the direction of Bled, there at the traffic-light intersection signs for Pokljuka direct us to the right. This road, which in the lower part runs through a few villages and later starts to ascend more steeply, we follow to Mrzli Studenec (mountain pasture, which is located a good 50 meters behind the crossroad, where the road to Bohinj branches off left downwards). In the middle of the mentioned mountain pasture from the main road, the road which runs to Medvedova konta, monument Pri Rupah and mountain pasture Planina Zajavornik branches off to the right. Here we turn right and in the next crossroads, we follow the road in the direction of the mountain pasture Planina Zajavornik. The road then brings us to the parking lot near the mountain pasture Planina Zajavornik.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we head on the footpath in the direction of Blejska koča. The path, which at first ascends gently through the spruce forest, a little higher crosses a forest road, behind which the path from the NOB monument (Pri Rupah) soon joins us from the left side. The considerably wide path, which all the time runs in the embrace of spruce forests, then higher brings us to the next junction, where we continue left in the direction of Lipanca (right Medvedova konta). We continue the ascent on a very wide cart track, which in a gentle ascent in a few minutes brings us to the grazing area of the mountain pasture Lipanca. Here the path turns right and leads us in a moderate ascent along the right lower edge of the mentioned mountain pasture. Next follows crossing of a grassy slope and the path, which again brings us into the forest, makes a sharp right turn at the NOB memorial plaque, after which we come to the shepherd and mountain hut on the mountain pasture Lipanca.
From the mountain pasture we continue right on an at first poorly visible and poorly marked path, which after a short ascent brings us to the upper edge of the mountain pasture, where there is also a smaller junction. We continue slightly left in the direction of "Lipanski vrh, Brda and Debela peč" on the path which bypasses a larger sinkhole on the right side. A little further, a path branches off from the "main" path towards Lipanski vrh.
We continue slightly right in the direction of Debela peč on the path which gradually starts to ascend steeper and steeper. When we pass this somewhat steeper part of the path we come to the next junction, where we continue straight in the direction of Debela peč (left Lipanska vrata and Brda). We continue on a gentle path, from which already after a few more steps a path to the mountain pasture Klek branches off to the right. The well-marked path then bypasses the interesting peak named Spodnja Brda (1844 m) on the left side and after that starts to ascend more steeply on increasingly less vegetated slopes. When we reach the expansive ridge the steepness eases and the path turns right, where it bypasses the dwarf pine-covered Okroglež. This is followed by a 10-minute crossing towards the east, which ends at the base of the summit of Debela peč. Here the path ascends steeply and after a further 10 minutes brings us to the panoramic summit.
Starting point - Blejska koča 1:00, Blejska koča - Debela peč 1:30.

Discussion about the trip Planina Zajavornik - Debela peč
|
| mojcej'7227. 06. 2010 |
Yesterday we went in two groups to Lipanca (Blejska koča). The first group took the variant from the junction at Šport hotel on Pokljuka and further towards Planina Zajavornik to planina Lipanca, rested there a bit and then on to Debela peč (total 3 hours one way). The second group also had two 9-year-olds who walked the variant below planina Lipanca to Vrh Lipance and down to Blejska koča. Weather super, because the sun didn't burn during ascent, during descent the sun rays delighted us, which also lured adders to the clearing (brown and black viper spotted). At Blejska koča only beef broth with barley and Carniolan sausages were available from food. We will surely repeat the trip sometime, as the trail is extremely beautiful, full of flowers and with great views (clearly visible to the hut at Kredarica, Triglav, Rjavec and Rjavina, the wall above Krma and Škrlatica in the background ...) heart-breaking for all those who would go - but can't for various reasons.

Hello, On Thursday, our group is heading to Debela peč. 1. I'm interested if Blejska koča is open? 2. Is there avalanche danger, slipping etc. on the path to Debela peč? Are crampons, ice axe needed? 3. Can you reach the starting point at the NOB monument or Pl. Zajavornik by car (is it plowed)? Best regards, Matej

Blejska koča is open all year round and stocked with drinks and food, overnight stay possible with prior notice. The upper part as described by the ski tourer, host Rok, is icy in places, there are also cornices. Crampons and ice axe are mandatory equipment for the mountains in winter, regardless of whether they are needed exactly on the path or not. The road to the monument is well passable even for passenger cars. It now also allows circular traffic with exit to the main road 1km before Rudno polje.

And avalanches - level 3 is announced, but I'm interested if the terrain on the tour to Debela peč is generally avalanche-prone or if the slope is too small and there is no danger? THANKS for the info. Matej

In this area of the high ridge of Pokljuka, avalanches first occur on Debela peč and below Lipanska vrata in the gully, sometimes also small ones on the steeper step above Blejska koča towards Mrežce approx. at 1730m, above the first leveling. Now there is too little snow for any serious avalanche at this altitude, elsewhere in the mountains the danger is level 3 and it's not for casual walking if you don't know the path and have experience with snow (cornices, slabs), proper use of technical aids and movement in winter conditions.

...and all that which viharnik advises, someone (leader) from the group going to the winter mountains with the society should master. Matej, don't you have a properly qualified leader in the society who would know (or at least should know) what tour awaits you? Obviously not, judging by your questions.

Hello, We don't have an official (certified) leader. However, we hike a lot in the mountains - this year about 40-50 scheduled tours. From very easy ones to demanding via ferrata ascents e.g. to Prisojnik, Stol from AU, Krn etc... - in summer Last week we were also at a winter mountaineering course on Vršič/Mojstrovka, where a professional licensed mountain guide/rescuer lectured and explained things in practice, so we don't tackle these things offhand. True, we lack winter experience (we haven't been to Debela peč in winter yet), and we'll need to acquire quite a bit of equipment too... That's why I prefer to ask you who have experience/knowledge, so that the matter is as safe as possible and the pleasure on the path even greater And first-hand information from someone who recently walked the path is most valuable.... Thanks for the reply.

Today my colleague and I were on Debela peč. Quite windy, a bit snowy, thick fog, 0% views. Snow cover stable, no need for crampons or ice axe (sinks that much), just last cca. 80m need to kick steps a bit. Track slightly trodden, miniature skinning (if you don't have dogs). Otherwise the whole group went next to it to Brda, so probably even better there. Today we were first (no one signed yesterday, one the day before yesterday), two more set off behind us but gave up due to weather. With my colleague we skied back towards B. hut, pure enjoyment. Snow somewhat refrozen, holds, minimal crust. Small wind slab forming at the top, but nothing serious. Apart from the weather, great trip. Nice to have navigation - especially in the head (due to fog and relatively poor troddenness - at least today).

What nonsense did I write: of course it's recommended to have crampons and ice axe(s). at least in the backpack!

Yesterday I set off past Blejska koča to Okroglež and Debela peč, then also to Brda. The path is nice and trodden. Halfway to Lipance I meet three chatty lively girls who, on this day, probably because of "husbands' holiday", set off from their husbands.. . Around noon the wind starts blowing stronger, but only on the mentioned peaks. I reach the starting point in good 45 min.

I don't know where this complaint belongs, but "planina Zajavornik" is everywhere on Pokljuka, and also on the Julian Alps map, marked as planina Javornik.

I would suggest you start at the ski resort on Rudnem polju and go along the lower path to planina Lipanca. From there to Debela peč and then more or less along the ridge to Brda, Lipanski vrh, Mrežce, Okroglež, Mali Draški vrh, Viševnik and down to the ski resort.

There is probably still quite a bit of snow in places, these are ski terrains after all. Better wait a bit longer until it's gone.

Today I walked this path - it's trodden, a bit windy at the top, but the views are divine. Keep a merry step

Does anyone know if the road to the starting point (parking lot near Planina Zajavornik) is drivable?

I recommend that you park in front of the Šport hotel. Then on foot via pl. Javornik. You have no problems with ice or parking. Lp and safe hiking.

On Saturday it was nicely drivable, otherwise a bit icy. With winter tires it went without problems.

On Saturday, 23.2. we were at Mrežicah. First went by car from Mrzlega studenca along the road towards Medvedovi konti but turned back. The road is pure ice. If someone spins out on you in the incline, it's risky. Then we went to Šport hotel. Main road completely dry, no snow. Road to pl. Javornik also completely icy, but with microspikes it goes great. Parking at the starting point for Debela peč is also pure ice.

I'm wondering if the road to planina Javornik is drivable and if the path to Debela peč is trodden? Thanks and best regards.
