Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Nova Gorica, and then we continue driving in the direction of Bovec and Tolmin. We continue along the Soča Valley on the main road to the settlement Plave, where, at the crossroad where the road to Paljevo branches off to the right, the described path begins. Because there are no arranged parking spaces at the starting point, we have to park somewhere else, preferably at some suitable place along the road before or after the settlement, or on the other side of the Soča River near the little church or somewhere on the periphery of the village.
B) We drive to the settlement Most na Soči, and from there we drive towards Nova Gorica. When we arrive at the settlement Plave, or to the crossroad where the road towards the settlement Paljevo branches off to the left, we are at the beginning of the described path. Because there are no arranged parking spaces at the starting point, we have to park somewhere else, preferably at some suitable place along the road before or after the settlement, or on the other side of the Soča River near the little church or somewhere on the periphery of the village.
Path description:
From the settlement Plave we continue on the asphalt road in the direction of Paljevo. The path first leads past a few houses, then quickly brings us to the left hairpin turn, where on a smaller building there is a NOB marker. We continue on the quite panoramic road, which past the bench brings us to the right hairpin turn, where straight ahead continues the footpath to Prižnica (elevation 383), and we continue right, further on the road. Further, for some time we cross the slopes to the right, then, a little after crossing the torrent brook in the hairpin, the road turns sharply left. From the road along which we still walk, a nice view opens towards Korada and Prižnica. When the road from the slopes almost transitions to more level terrain, on the right side we notice a cart track and unofficial signs for Kuk beside it.
Here the first path to Kuk branches off to the right, and we continue on the road, on which we soon arrive at a few houses in the settlement Paljevo. We continue on the asphalt road which crosses a strip of forest, then, when the forest ends, before the power line route we continue right on an initially grassy cart track, which after a few meters becomes a worse forest road, which passes into the forest. Further, we ascend for some time on the mentioned road, which the whole time runs near the power line, higher we join a wider road which leads from the upper part of the settlement Paljevo.
Immediately after the roads join, at the information board they split again. We continue on the right road, which then mostly gently to moderately ascends the northwestern slopes of Kuk. Somewhat higher, at the smaller crossroad we continue straight, then on a slightly steeper road we continue all the way to the marked crossroad located south of Kuk.
From the junction a road branches sharply to the right, by which we can reach the settlements Zagora and Zagomila, sharply to the right branches the path to Kuk, and we continue straight past the monument, which was erected in June 1916 for the commander of the 1st Mountain Brigade FML Guido Novak von Arienti. Behind the monument the road turns slightly left, then after a few minutes brings us to the hamlet Vodice. Behind Vodice we leave the road and continue the path right in the direction of the monument (inscription on the board). The path further turns somewhat more to the right and brings us from the forest onto a grassy hay meadow, where it continues along the outer edge of the pasture fence. With nice views on the surrounding hills and the Julian Alps, in a few minutes we return to the forest. The path continues through the forest and mostly only gently ascends, then flattens even more and brings us to a forest road, which we reach near the information boards.
At the information boards the forest road continues to the left towards the pass Preški vrh, somewhat further and then to the right leads the path to the nearby monument at the eagles, further on the worse road the path continues towards the summit Vodice and the mausoleum on the summit. From the information boards to the summit Vodice there are only about 2 minutes of walking.
