Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we take the exit Lesce and follow the road towards Bled and further towards Bohinjska Bistrica and Lake Bohinj. After the settlement Laški Rovt we will come to a smaller junction, where the road which leads towards the starting points of the paths to Rodica, Planina Suha, Šija, Vogel... and the scout camp Laški Rovt branches off to the left. The macadam road immediately enters the forest and first ascends past the mentioned scout camp, then ascends relatively steeply for a few kilometres. After a little less than 6.5 km of driving on macadam we will arrive at a somewhat larger junction, where the road towards Planina Storeča raven (starting point of the path to Vogel) branches off to the right. Here we continue straight and after approximately 50 m of further driving we arrive at the left bend, where the starting point of the path towards Planina Suha, Rodica and Šija is located. From here we continue for approximately 1 km on the road which leads towards the Kobla ski slope, then at the junction we continue on the upper right road, along which we drive for approximately 1800 m, or to the place where on the right we notice a smaller cairn and the start of the hunting path towards Planina Poljana (the start of the path is located about 200 metres before the end of the road). We can park a little earlier at a suitable spot beside the road.
From the main road to the starting point there is approximately 9.3 km of macadam.
Path description:
From the place where we have parked, we first walk to a smaller cairn, where the hunting path begins, leading towards Planina Poljana. Immediately when we leave the road, the path enters the forest and turns to the left. The path ahead ascends moderately through the forest, mostly crossing the slopes to the left. Higher up, the path flattens temporarily, then ascends more steeply through a sparse belt of shrubbery, from where a beautiful view opens towards the north and northeast. Above the steep section, the path flattens and turns slightly to the right, where it begins to descend to the point where the path past the hunting hut joins. Here we continue straight and in 2 minutes of gentle ascent arrive at Planina Poljana.
From the shepherd huts we continue along the right side of the pasture, walking along the edge of the pasture to the spot where a well-followable path branches off to the right, beginning to ascend through a belt of dwarf pines. After a short ascent, the path turns sharply to the right, then after a good 10 minutes of further walking brings us to a less noticeable junction, where a path (later pathless) branches off to the left towards Raskovec. We continue on the wider right path, which soon flattens somewhat, then brings us in a moderate ascent to the saddle south of Gradovec (1692 m).
On the mentioned saddle there usually stands a cairn which directs us right onto the cut path continuing through the belt of dwarf pines. Further on we ascend first moderately, then quite steeply along the southern and increasingly panoramic ridge of Gradovec. With fine views of the mountains surrounding Bohinj, we quickly reach the panoramic summit, which like the final section of the path is cut.
Starting point – Planina Poljana 55 minutes, Planina Poljana – Gradovec 40 minutes.
