Podgrad - Grmadnik

Access to starting point:
From the eastern Ljubljana bypass, we head to the exit Ljubljana - east and continue driving along Zaloška cesta in the direction of Zalog. Further, we drive on the main road towards Podgrad. In the settlement Podgrad, we turn right through the underpass under the railway track and then continue on a relatively narrow road in the direction towards Besnica and Janče. Only a little before the end of the settlement Podgrad, we park on a parking lot on the left side of the road. In case the parking lot is occupied, we can turn right here on a cart track by the information board and over a small wooden bridge cross the stream. There is then also some space for parking.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we first cross the main road and past the information board which describes the Ostrovrharjeva pot we go on a cart track and through a small wooden bridge we cross the stream Besnica. The cart track turns to the left and brings us to a crossroad.
Sharply right on a cart track or a macadam road leads the Ostrovrharjeva pot by which there is also a signpost, slightly to the right a shortcut also branches off, which higher joins the Ostrovrharjeva pot, and we continue straight on a gentle cart track. The gentle cart track then brings us to a grassy clearing on which we will also notice a hunting observatory. We still continue on the cart track, which we can at this spot due to frequent mud also bypass on a footpath which runs by the edge of the clearing. After the clearing, the path brings us to a crossing.
Straight on a cart track leads a path towards the old castle Osterberg, and we continue left on a narrower footpath where a signpost for the Ostrovrharjeva pot also directs us. From the crossing, the path first slightly descends and then over a small wooden bridge crosses the stream Besnica. Here we are again at a crossing. To the right by the stream leads the path through the valley of the stream Besnica and further towards the millstone quarry, and we follow the signs for the Ostrovrharjeva pot and cross the asphalt road.
Here we start to ascend a little steeper and the path soon brings us to a crossing. We continue right, and further we then ascend diagonally towards the southeast. The path here runs through the forest, and occasionally through the trees a view still opens up on the surrounding hills above the valley of the stream Besnica. Such a path then brings us to the ridge where there is a crossing.
To the left slightly downwards leads the Ostrovrharjeva pot towards the summit Murjevka and further towards the tourist farm Pri Lazarju. At the crossing, we continue right on a footpath, or we can also take the cart track which runs parallel with the footpath. The footpath at first runs to the right of the cart track, a little later crosses it and then starts to ascend a little steeper. Here from the path occasionally a view also opens up on the surrounding hills and also towards the Alps. Higher, the path slightly descends and on some sort of saddle brings us again to the cart track.
Here from the cart track right upwards a narrow footpath branches off which leads to Grmadnik from the northern side. We can ascend towards the summit already on the mentioned footpath or continue on the cart track and first bypass the summit on the left side. If we continue on the cart track, the path brings us to a crossing where there is also a sign for the Borovničeva pohodna pot, which otherwise leads from Podgrad towards Janče.
At the mentioned crossing, we leave the cart track and head sharply right on a footpath which leads along the ridge towards the summit of Grmadnik. The mentioned footpath is maybe a little better beaten than the one from the northern side.
From the crossing, we then ascend on a narrow footpath through the forest, which leads to Grmadnik from the southeastern side. On such a path we then soon reach the summit.
