Access to starting point:
We leave the Ljubljana eastern bypass at the exit Lj.-Sostro/Lj.-Bizovik and head in the direction of Sostro. (We can also drive here from the center of Ljubljana on Litijska cesta). About 700 meters from the bypass - at the "Y" crossroad - we turn right in the direction of Podlipoglav. We follow this road for good 4 km - through the last foothills of Ljubljana, past the church of St. Lenart, through Sadinja vas and lastly to Podlipoglav. Here at the only larger crossroad, we don't continue left on the main road, but straight in the direction of Šentpavel/Brezje/Repče.
The starting point is only 200 meters ahead of this crossroad, at the end of the settlement Podlipoglav or at the turn-off of the road towards Šentpavel (some space for parking is by the turn-off or just before the bridge). To here from the bypass highway is 5 km (and from the center of Ljubljana good 10 km).
Route description:
Note: The path to Pugled along the western ridge is not marked, therefore some sense of orientation is needed for the ascent. The entire hill is crisscrossed with tracks for steep cycling descents (downhill), so the peak can be reached via numerous combinations of paths, not necessarily the described one.
If we are standing at the turn-off for Šentpavel, Pugled is directly in front of us, approximately to the east. From the turn-off, we briefly continue along the asphalt road towards Repče and Brezje. Already after good 100 m, a poorer cart track branches off to the left from the asphalt road and we go mildly upwards on it. (Note: Less than 50 m behind the cart track turn-off, we see the turn-off of a macadam road; this represents the start of another possible access, which passes by guard post no. 1 and is partly marked). Already after good 100 m we enter the forest, where we continue directly upwards on a well-beaten path (to the left horizontally we see another well-beaten path; to the right an old cart track).
Further, the path leads us sufficiently evenly upwards along the most beaten passages. On the path we cross quite a few other paths, old cart tracks and active downhill descents (marked with stone pyramids). At the first stone pyramid we turn right upwards, at the second pyramid sharply left steeply upwards, where we step onto the nice western ridge or backbone. The path follows this backbone for quite some time; partly it runs directly on the cart track, takes us past (already the third) pyramid, soon after the fourth (smaller) pyramid it briefly turns left out of the cart track and quickly returns to it. At the top of the western ridge we see the peak of Pugled in front of us.
The path now briefly levels out and heads to the shady, NE side of the western forepeak. After a couple of minutes walking in the shade of the western forepeak we step onto the saddle. Here is the junction of many paths (possibility of combining).
From the saddle we must turn around the summit pyramid almost horizontally to the left, along a fairly narrow path. This leads in a gentle ascent circularly around the peak in the direction of the clock hands. Only when we are on the NE side does the path head upwards and directly to the summit.
If we use the described path for descent, we head right next to the logbook box in the NE direction downwards.
Note: On the summit of Pugled there has been a flagpole since April 2019. A small clearing on the western edge of the summit provides a view of the Ljubljana Basin, with the Julian Alps and Šmarna gora in the background.

Discussion about the trip Podlipoglav - Pugled (on the western ridge)

Pugled has become a popular destination for motocross riders. Among other things, this trail is in very poor condition on a considerable part, deep channels have remained from the trail where roots and stones stick out. After rains (condition 26.1.2026) there is also a lot of mud, erosion is accelerated with human help. Shame, it was the most beautiful trail for me, especially solitary and quiet.
