Podoštra - Oštra

Access to starting point:
We exit the A1 motorway at the Gospić exit and continue left into the center of Gospić, where we continue straight towards Karlobag and Baške Oštarije. When we arrive in the village of Podoštra and see the quarry on the hill Oštra, which we recognize by the antenna at the top, we park in the larger parking lot to the right of the road.

Route description:
From the parking lot we continue along the main road towards Baške Oštarije. After 5 minutes of walking we reach the turn-off for Oštra, which is behind a dilapidated house on the right. Just before entering the forest we also notice a wooden signpost indicating that it is 35 minutes to the summit. The path is initially gentle, then after the first wooden bench it becomes somewhat steeper and rocky. In between there is a short rocky section that is technically undemanding. After that the path becomes less rocky and turns left. Soon we reach the second bench, from where we have a nice view towards part of the Southern Velebit. We ascend transversely along the south-western slope of the summit for about 10 minutes. The path crosses a small clearing with the third bench, after which it turns right and crosses the slope on level ground. When the path turns left steeply upwards we soon see the antenna at the top. A short ascent over a grassy slope still separates us from it. To the right of the antenna there is a registration box on a rock and benches with a view. It is also possible to climb the observation tower, from where we can see a large part of the Velebit and Lika.
