Access to starting point:
We can reach Podsreda from Celje via Šentjur and Kozje, from Krško or Sevnica via Brestanica and Senovo, from Brežice via Bizeljsko and Bistrica ob Sotli; if we come from Maribor via Podčetrtek, then in Prelasko we turn towards Kozje, where we join the road from Šentjur.
We can park in the very center of Podsreda on paved parking spots in the middle of the square, on the parking lot next to the church, or also on the parking lot next to the fire station by the road towards Kozje, which is a few minutes' walk from the center of Podsreda.
Path description:
From the square in the center of Podsreda we head south and cross the road from Brestanica. At the marked left turn-off towards Levstikov mlin we continue straight (so we do not go towards the mill), a few meters after that we turn right onto the marked forest path, which immediately begins to ascend and leads through the forest almost to the top. For some time the signs for "Grajska pot" are still visible, but they soon disappear, or are replaced by yellow-white blazes. Despite everything, the path is sufficiently obvious that we really cannot get lost; only at the spot where it is crossed by the forest road must we continue straight. Additionally, educational boards regularly appear along the path, which inform us either about curiosities along the path or about the importance of the forest, and can also serve as an indicator that we have not strayed.
When the path peeks out of the forest below the top and we finally see the castle, we can optionally turn right at the marked turn-off to the Florjanova kapela, 5 minutes away, from where probably the most beautiful view of the castle is offered. From the chapel we can return to the turn-off, or continue a little further and turn left onto the road that leads to the castle. If we stayed on the Grajska pot, we continue past a solitary house and soon reach the somewhat lower-lying western castle tract, which today serves as a hotel. Here we turn right and ascend the paved path right to the entrance into the castle.
