Access to starting point:
We arrive in Hungary via the Pince / Tornyszentmiklos border crossing. Drive to Budapest. Just before Budapest, take the exit towards Györ. Leave the motorway at the Herceghalom, Zsambek exit and head towards the settlement of Dorog.
Continue through the settlements Zsambek, Tök, Perbál and Tinnye. In the village of Tinnye, turn right towards Piliscsáb, then head towards Pilisvörösvár again.
In Pilisvörösvár, notice the turn-off for Csobánka. Drive along the main road through the settlement until reaching the Pomáz-Dobogókő road. At the intersection is a bus stop. Turn left here, about 200 meters, at the next bus stop, turn right into the forest. Drive another two minutes, or until reaching the small parking lot where the vehicle is left.
The starting point can also be reached via Budapest and Pomáz, but there are almost always traffic jams there.
Path description:
From the parking lot return about 200 meters back, where on the right notice the branch into the forest. Ahead, follow the red line and green circle markers. Walk through the forest above the village Nagykovácsi until reaching the start of the ascent to Holdvilág árók, one of the most interesting ascents in Hungary.
The path ahead becomes somewhat more technically demanding, featuring numerous characteristic jumps over the stream. The path marking from here is red plus and green circle. Roughly halfway up the ascent, the green circle path branches off from ours. The path continues past the Dominik forrás spring, where you can quench your thirst.
Upon reaching the technically demanding section, very steep man-made wooden stairs branch left, bypassing the most interesting part of the ascent; we continue straight. In a right bend the path turns north and becomes technically demanding, where we will help ourselves with our hands for easier progress. Soon reach a dead end where the path seems to end, but the Meteor-létra ladder assists with an almost vertical climb. At the ladder's start is an interesting cliff.
Above the cliff, two options for continuing: proceed on the still somewhat more technically demanding path or go up the small bridge, seeing a fairly smooth rock beside which there was once a pagan shrine. Climb up beside the rock, soon arriving at Karolina árók. A traverse follows, then steep ascent on man-made towers above the Karolina árók gorge, where the demanding section ends.
The path continues on a wider cart track and in a few turns leads to the saddle between the summits. A minute off the path is the Kötelező romantikus kilátó viewpoint, resembling a hunting observation post, offering views to the west and south.
At the saddle is a junction; go right. The red plus turns left to Kolevka hegy summit, our path marked from here with green triangle. The path first gently then more steeply ascends to Nagy-Csikóvár summit. Just before the top, remains of the former fortress are visible.
At the summit is a small concrete tower. The summit is in forest with no view, except in winter when Szentendre and Göd can be seen to the east through the trees.
