Povlje - Mali Grintovec (via Bašeljski vrh)

Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, we take the exit Brnik; when we reach the road Mengeš - Kranj, we continue left towards Kranj. On the main road towards Kranj, we drive to the first roundabout, from where we continue on the first exit to the right in the direction of Šenčur. Through Šenčur, we continue on the main road; then, when we reach the road Kranj - Zgornje Jezersko, we continue right in the direction of Jezersko. When we get to Preddvor, we leave the main road and continue driving left towards the centre of the mentioned settlement; from there, we follow the signs for the settlement Bašelj. A little after the settlement Bašelj, the road descends to the stream Milka and crosses it over a bridge. Here, to the right first branches off the road to the village Babni Vrt, and good 100 m further also to the village Povlje. We continue on the ascending road towards Povlje, and we park on a smaller parking lot above the village. At the starting point, there is a smaller crossroad, several mountain signposts and a larger information board of the walking-learning path Trstenik "Pot pod Storžičem".
B) From the highway Jesenice - Ljubljana, we take the exit Kranj west, and then we continue driving towards Golnik. When we get to Tenetiše, we leave the main road towards Golnik and continue driving right in the direction of Trstenik. Approximately 1 km after the settlement Trstenik, we get to a smaller crossroad, where we continue left in the direction of the village Povlje. We continue on the ascending road towards Povlje, and we park on a smaller parking lot above the village. At the starting point, there is a smaller crossroad, several mountain signposts and a larger information board of the walking-learning path Trstenik "Pot pod Storžičem".

Path description:
From the starting point, we continue in the direction of the walking-learning path Trstenik "Pot pod Storžičem", that is, we continue on the asphalt road which turns right and a little higher leads past a few more houses and holiday cottages. Above the settlement, the asphalt ends, and the road passes into the forest, where a little ahead it crosses a torrent stream (in the upper part known as the southwestern gully of Storžič, in the lower part it is no longer so distinct). After crossing the torrent ditch, where wild garlic grows in springtime, the road ascends diagonally towards the right for some time, then splits into two wide cart tracks. We continue on the lower right cart track, and from it already after a few steps we go left into the forest, on the path in the direction of St. Lovrenc. The path continues for some time without major changes in altitude, then we join a cart track, on which we quickly arrive at Srečotovih mlinčki.
A little above the little mills, the path towards St. Lovrenc turns from the cart track right into dense forest, and we continue straight and ascend on the cart track to the junction with the marked path.
We follow the mentioned path to the left (right St. Lovrenc, Bašelj...) in the direction of Storžič and Kališče.
Further on, we continue in the direction of Storžič on the wide path, which slightly ascends. The path soon becomes narrower and then steeply ascends through the forest for quite some time. Higher up, the path brings us out of the forest and beautiful views open up on the southern slopes of Storžič. The steepness does not relent all the way to the bench at the junction.
To the left leads the marked path towards Javornik and Poljane, and we head right towards Kališče. From the junction, the path becomes somewhat narrower and less trodden. Further on, we cross the slopes towards the east for a long time. Forest and grassy slopes alternate on the path, which are quite steep in places. During the crossing, the path occasionally ascends somewhat more steeply, and several times it also slightly descends. In the second part of the crossing, the path brings us to the spring below Bašeljsko sedlo. Here the path turns slightly to the right and continues crossing the slopes until it brings us to the marked junction, where we continue straight in the direction of Bašeljski vrh and Mali Grintovec (left Storžič, right Dom na Kališču).
Ahead, the path ascends more steeply through the belt of dwarf pines and, with nice views of the neighbouring Mali Grintovec, brings us to the dwarf pine-covered ridge of Bašeljski vrh, where in the next few minutes we arrive at the next well-marked junction. At the junction, the path to Mali Grintovec and Srednji vrh branches off to the right, and we continue straight and, with a view of Storžič, continue the ascent. The path, which runs on and along the dwarf pine-covered ridge, a little below the summit also joins the path from Jekarica and Bašeljski preval. Here we continue right and along the somewhat narrower ridge in one minute of further walking reach Bašeljski vrh, from which a beautiful view opens up towards the mountains above Jezersko, extending all the way to Košuta, Obir and the Labotniške Alps in Austria.
From Bašeljski vrh, we begin to descend relatively steeply towards the east to northeast, along the path that runs on and along the ridge, which is mostly covered with dwarf pines; on the part where it is not, a little more caution is needed. After approximately 15 minutes, the descent ends and the path brings us to Mačensko sedlo, where the marked path from Kališče and the unmarked path through the Suha valley join us.
We continue straight in the direction of Mali Grintovec, on the path which begins to ascend relatively steeply along the western slope of the mentioned mountain. After approximately half an hour of walking from Mačensko sedlo, we come to the marked junction, where the path from Dolge njive joins from the right. We continue left and after some ten steps of further walking arrive at the summit of Mali Grintovec.
