Prigorec - Ivanščica (Mrzljak)

Access to starting point:
a) We arrive in Croatia via the Gruškovje / Macelj border crossing. We exit the motorway at the first junction and head towards Varaždin. Along the way are Trakošćan, Bednja, Lepoglava and we arrive in Ivanec. In Ivanec, at the traffic light intersection, we turn right south (here the peak of Ivanščica is directly in front of us) and continue straight ahead. The road starts to ascend and leads us to the village of Prigorec. Our trail starts at the first junction right (for all other trails go left through the village upwards). There are some parking spots along the road, which are often occupied; the best choice is to drive to the top of Prigorec village, where there is a large parking lot, and then descend through the village back to the first junction in the village.
b) From Prekmurje via the Petišovci / Mursko Središče border crossing we arrive in Croatia and continue driving through Čakovec and Varaždin, where we turn towards Ivanec. In Ivanec, at the junction with traffic lights we turn left south and follow description a.

Path description:
At the first junction in Prigorec village go right and ascend the asphalt road. Soon we reach level meadows with some more parking spots, then the path enters the forest, where it temporarily levels out and later briefly descends. The path continues past an interesting smooth wall and past the Žgano vino spring, where there is another large parking lot (about 20 minutes to here).
At the parking lot leave the asphalt road and continue on a wider gravel cart track ascending. Further the path becomes steeper. Higher the cart track turns sharply left, we continue straight on a narrower path that becomes even steeper (steepness can be avoided on the right path, but then we bypass the spring). When steepness eases we reach the Mrzljak spring, after which the path we walk is also named. After short rest continue on the path that from south turns north and enters spruce forest. Path leads past some interesting rocks, after bend turns south again. Follows walking on forested cart track, ascend also over some man-made steps. Steep path levels higher and leads to Grob junction, where paths from south side of Ivanščica join.
From junction, where there is also grave of unknown soldier, continue east on level path. Soon reach next attraction, "rest area" Črna Mlaka, said to be witches' home.
The Črna Mlaka itself is a small muddy pond that never dries up.
Continue towards summit, path leads east, soon to next rest area and junction where more paths join. A bit further to only poorly marked junction, go up.
A bit higher touch road, go left on marked path. Short ascent follows and reach road again, this time continue on it to mountain hut about 5 minutes away, from which summit Ivanščica is one minute walk.
