Access to starting point:
From the Rupa - Rijeka or Zagreb - Rijeka motorway we drive towards Rijeka, from there we follow the signs for Krk island. When the motorway or the expressway ends in the last section, we descend to the Krk bridge, then continue driving towards the towns Omišalj, Njivice, Malinska, Krk and Punat. At Punat we leave the road leading to Baška and from the roundabout continue right in the direction of the Punat and Stara Baška exits. We then drive through Punat, where right at the end of this settlement we park the vehicle in a suitable place.
Path description:
From Punat, where we notice the signs for Veli Vrh, we first walk for about ten minutes along a gravel road, which then changes into a well-marked hiking trail. The hiking trail then joins a gravel road, which we soon leave again by going straight ahead. Along a somewhat rockier trail we walk to a junction, where we turn left. The hiking trail descends slightly over a short distance to a junction, where we turn right. At the Žičevo junction we turn right again. We quickly reach the Kaljužina junction, where we turn right again. From this junction we continue the hike uphill through unwooded terrain, reaching the summit in about half an hour.
Veli Vrh delights us with views to the west towards the town of Krk and further to the islands of Plavnik and Cres.
