Rein - Mühlbacher Kogel (via Hochstein)

Access to starting point:
From the highway Maribor - Graz - Salzburg (A9) we head to the exit Gratkorn - Nord (2nd exit after the Plabutschtunnel). We turn right in the direction of Rein.
We drive through three roundabouts. In the first we take the 1st exit, in the second the 2nd exit, in the third the 1st exit towards the settlement Rein.
Two more junctions follow, where in the 1st we turn right, in the 2nd left.
After 2.5 km we arrive at the settlement Rein, where we park on a large parking lot intended for visitors of the monastery.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we go on the path (along the hedge) in the direction of the monastery.
At the crossroads, we turn right over the bridge of the Mühlbach stream and immediately after the first house we continue left on a narrower road.
A few meters after that, when the path changes from asphalted base to macadam, we turn right onto the hunting path (sign "Jägersteig").
After approximately 100 m (along the fence) we turn sharply right into a steep climb.
At the top of the climb we continue left along the ridge. First steeply upwards, then slightly up/down, until the path joins the road.
Up the road, after approximately 800 m a sign directs us again onto a forest path.
Higher up the path rejoins the road, which this time we just cross. Then there is a junction where we take the left path (otherwise the right path also leads higher to the common path).
We follow the path markings. After the steeper section of the path we arrive at a macadam road, where we keep to the right.
After 100 m of walking along the road we continue on a steep unmarked trail left uphill.
Soon a nice view opens up on the surrounding hills.
We follow the well-trodden trail to the summit.
From the summit we follow the trail along the ridge downhill.
In between, on the ridge we climb a few more elevation meters, then we rejoin the road.
We follow the road for approximately 1.5 km, where in good weather we can admire the view into the valley.
A sign on the rock directs us onto a wider forest path, which we follow to the Mühlbacher Hütte hut.
At the fountain behind the hut we go left on a small trail slightly uphill. After 50 m at the junction we continue right steeply uphill. We reach a saddle, where we turn left.
The grassy trail leads into the forest. After a few tens of meters we reach the summit.
