Rifugio Pederü - Bivacco Baccon Barborka

Access to starting point:
A) From Kranjska Gora over Korensko sedlo to Austria, where at the first larger crossroad we continue left towards Podklošter / Arnoldstein and Trbiž / Tarvisio. At the end of the settlement Podklošter signs for Šmohor / Hermagor point us right onto a regional road, along which past the mentioned settlement we drive to the end of the Gailtal valley, or more precisely to the settlement Kötschach-Mauthen, where we turn right towards the settlement Oberdrauburg. The route ahead leads us over the Alpine pass Gailbergsattel (982 m), after which we descend into the mentioned settlement. After crossing the bridge over the river Drau, we continue left towards the settlement Lienz. In the main roundabout in Lienz we continue "left" in the direction of the settlement Sillian and Italy. Further we cross the state border between Austria and Italy, and we follow the main road past the settlements Dobbiaco / Toblach, Villabassa / Niederdorf, Monguelfo - Tesido / Welsberg - Taisten, Brunico / Bruneck. Only a little after the last-mentioned town, past which a bypass road leads, we turn left into the Val Badia valley. Further we drive through the mentioned valley and in the settlement Longega we turn left towards the settlement San Vigilio. In San Vigilio then at the crossroad we turn left following the signs »Pederü«. After approximately 200 meters we then turn right also following the signs »Pederü«. We follow this road all the way to the large parking lot in front of the mountain hut Rifugio Pederü.
B) From Nova Gorica we drive to Italy and further on the highway towards Venice / Venezia. At the town Portogruaro we leave the highway towards Venice and continue right on the highway towards Pordenone. At the next highway junction near Conegliano we continue right towards Belluno. Near Belluno the highway ends, and at the next crossroads we continue in the direction of Cortina d'Ampezzo. When we arrive in Cortina d'Ampezzo, we follow the signs for the Alpine pass Passo Falzarego. At the pass Passo Falzarego (2105 m) we turn right in the direction of the pass Valparola and further towards Alta Badia. In the settlement La Villa we turn right towards the settlement Brunico. We then follow the road to the settlement Longega where we turn right towards the settlement San Vigilio. In San Vigilio then at the crossroad we turn left following the signs »Pederü«. After approximately 200 meters we then turn right also following the signs »Pederü«. We follow this road all the way to the large parking lot in front of the mountain hut Rifugio Pederü.

Path description:
From the parking lot we continue to the junction by the hut. Signposts direct us slightly right onto the footpath towards the huts Lavarela and Fanes, while left the path leads towards the hut Fodara Vedla. The gently sloping path first crosses a stream and road, then begins to ascend somewhat more steeply through dwarf pines. After the initial somewhat steeper section the path becomes gentler further on, and on a shorter section it also descends slightly. The path also joins the road a few times for a short while, then continues mostly through dwarf pines on the right side of the valley.
Further the path turns somewhat to the right and increasingly beautiful views of the surrounding peaks begin to open up. Later we rejoin the mountain road that runs along the stream Rü dal Plan. The slightly ascending road then brings us to a junction.
To the right the road leads towards the hut Rifugio Lavarella (5 minutes), while we at the junction continue left. The road then ascends slightly and soon brings us to the hut.
At the hut we head onto path 10 towards the saddle Limo pass and mountain pasture Gran Fanes. Initially we ascend somewhat more steeply along the footpath through the forest, which brings us back onto the road. We continue right along the scenic road. Somewhat higher the road turns left and along grassy slopes brings us to the saddle Ju de Limo (Italian Passo di Limo, German Limopass).
The road from the saddle descends slightly and quickly brings us to the lake Lago di Limo, by which a path branches off left towards the summit Col Bechei.
From the lake we continue along the gentle road, which soon brings us to another junction.
Left downhill a footpath branches off towards the valley Valle di Fanes, while we continue right along the scenic road, which continues to descend slightly. Somewhat lower a macadam road from the valley Valle di Fanes joins us from the left. From the junction only a short descent remains along the scenic road to the hut Ütia de Gran Fanes.
From the hut we continue along the road, which leads us across the scenic mountain pasture as we descend slightly more. The road then crosses a small bridge and soon brings us to a marked junction.
At the junction we head left onto path number 17 or the Path of Peace (Fridensweg / Via della pace). From the junction the path initially runs across a grassy slope and then brings us into a belt of very sparse larch and pine forest. Further on the path is marked with number 17 and signs VB and FR, indicating the summits Vallon Bianco and Furcia Rossa. The path continues to ascend gently along the old military mule track towards the southeast. The path slowly turns somewhat more to the left and a view towards the east onto the valley Valle di Fanes begins to open up. Here the mule track brings us onto rockier terrain, where we soon reach a junction.
To the right path 17 leads towards Monte Castello or bivouac Bivacco della Pace, while we continue left along the path towards the summits Furcia Rossa and Vallon Bianco. From the junction the path then crosses the slopes somewhat further east for some time and brings us to somewhat steeper slopes. This is followed by an ascent mostly in zigzags up the steep slope, and the path brings us to the next junction.
To the right a secured climbing path branches off towards the summit Furcia Rossa III and further towards bivouac Bivacco della Pace. At the junction we continue left and ascend for a while longer along the scenic path. The path then turns slightly to the right and brings us via a wide ledge and then along the upper edge of the scree back to a junction.
Left the path leads towards the summit Vallon Bianco, while we continue straight towards the summit Furcia Rossa II, by which there is also a smaller bivouac Bivacco Baccon Barborka. From the junction we continue in the same direction and ascend below the walls towards the south. The path then turns right and ascends diagonally across the rocky slope towards the main ridge. Just before the ridge we then continue left and quickly reach bivouac Bivacco Baccon Barborka. From the bivouac we can ascend a few more meters to the summit Furcia Rossa II, from where a superb view opens up onto the peaks above the valley Val Travenanzes.
We descend along the ascent path.
