Rifugio Pederü - Muntejela de Sennes

Access to starting point:
A) From Kranjska Gora over Korensko sedlo to Austria, where at the first larger intersection we continue left towards Podklošter / Arnoldstein and Trbiž / Tarvisio. At the end of the settlement Podklošter signs for Šmohor / Hermagor direct us right onto a regional road, along which past the mentioned settlement we drive to the end of the Gailtal valley, or more precisely to the settlement Kötschach-Mauthen, where we turn right towards the settlement Oberdrauburg. The route then leads us over the Alpine pass Gailbergsattel (982 m), after which we descend into the mentioned settlement. After crossing the bridge over the river Drau, we continue left towards the settlement Lienz. At the main roundabout in Lienz we continue "left" in the direction of the settlement Sillian and Italy. Further, we cross the state border between Austria and Italy, and we follow the main road past the settlements Dobbiaco / Toblach, Villabassa / Niederdorf, Monguelfo - Tesido / Welsberg - Taisten, Brunico / Bruneck. Only a little after the last-mentioned settlement, past which a bypass road leads, we turn left into the Val Badia valley. Further, we drive through the mentioned valley and in the settlement Longega we turn left towards the settlement San Vigilio. In San Vigilio then at the intersection we turn left following the signs »Pederü«. After approximately 200 meters we then turn right also following the signs »Pederü«. We follow this road all the way to the large parking lot in front of the hut Rifugio Pederü.
B) From Nova Gorica we drive to Italy and further on the highway towards Venice / Venezia. At the settlement Portogruaro we leave the highway towards Venice and continue right on the highway towards Pordenone. At the next highway junction near the settlement Conegliano we continue right towards Belluno. Near Belluno the highway ends, and at the next junctions we continue in the direction of Cortina d'Ampezzo. When we arrive in Cortina d'Ampezzo, we follow the signs for the Alpine pass Passo Falzarego. At the pass Passo Falzarego (2105 m) we turn right in the direction of the pass Valparola and further towards Alta Badia. In the settlement La Villa we turn right towards the settlement Brunico. We then follow the road to the settlement Longega where we turn right towards the settlement San Vigilio. In San Vigilio then at the intersection we turn left following the signs »Pederü«. After approximately 200 meters we then turn right also following the signs »Pederü«. We follow this road all the way to the large parking lot in front of the hut Rifugio Pederü.

Path description:
From the hut Rifugio Pederü we continue left on a macadam road where signposts for the hut direct us. The road, which is closed to traffic, at the beginning starts to ascend very steeply in zigzags and beautiful views of the surrounding peaks begin to open up. Further on, the road becomes slightly less steep and runs mostly through the forest. After a good half hour of walking from the starting point, the road brings us to a marked junction.
Straight ahead the road leads towards the hut Fodara, we continue left following the signs »Rif. Sennes Hütte«. At the junction we slightly descend and cross a stream. The path here is fairly level for some time, then turns left and in the ascent crosses steep slopes towards the northwest. Higher, the path turns right and soon we join the road from the hut Fodara.
Further, we walk on the road, which steadily ascends gently, and slowly even more beautiful views begin to open up. The forest along the road is replaced by scree and from the right a footpath from the hut Fodara also joins us.
The road further becomes somewhat gentler and soon we reach a junction where to the right branches off the road towards the huts Rifugio Ra Stua and Rifugio Biella. At the junction we continue left and to the hut Rifugio Sennes only a short walk on a level road remains.
From the hut we continue on the macadam road following the signs »Munt de Sennes«. Instead of the road we can also continue on the footpath, which runs left of the road below the slopes of the peak Col de Lasta. The road from the hut starts ascending and brings us to a marked junction where to the right branches off the path towards the hut Rifugio Biella (Seekofelhütte).
We continue on the road, which becomes gentler and quickly brings us to another junction. This time to the right branches off the path towards the notches Forcela de Riciogogn and Ju de Senes. Further we continue on the road, then from the left a footpath also joins us and to the hut Munt de Sennes only a short descent remains.
From the hut we continue towards the northwest following the signs »Muntejela«. From the hut the path first slightly descends on grassy slopes, then starts ascending and brings us to a narrow valley called Val de San Berto. For some time we then ascend through the mentioned valley, at the end of the valley the path brings us to a marked junction.
To the right leads the path towards the saddle Ju de Senes, we continue slightly left on path 27 following the signs »Muntejela de Senes«. The path from the junction runs towards the northwest and starts to ascend somewhat more steeply through the valley on the eastern side of the mountain Muntejela. Higher, as a poorly visible track from the saddle Ju de Senes joins us from the right, the path turns left and ascends a somewhat steeper and somewhat crumbly slope. On this otherwise short section, due to the crumbly nature some caution is needed. The path then brings us to the western side of the ridge where we continue right and then ascend on grassy slopes along the ridge. In the last part of the path grass is replaced by a rocky slope along which we soon reach the panoramic summit.
