Access to starting point:
Via the border crossings Rateče or Predel we drive to Trbiž / Tarvisio, and then we continue driving on the highway towards Videm / Udine. At the settlement Tolmezzo we leave the highway, and then we continue driving in the direction of the settlement Ampezzo and mountain pass Passo della Mauria. After the pass the road starts descending and brings us into the Cadore valley, where we continue right in the direction of the settlement Auronzo. A little before the mentioned settlement we go right and we continue driving towards the Alpine pass Passo Monte Croce. Still before the road starts more seriously ascending towards the mentioned pass, we continue left in the direction of the Val Grande valley. Further we drive on a narrower and mostly asphalted road, which we follow to the parking lot at the hut Rifugio Selvapiana I. Lunelli.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on a macadam road which after a few minutes changes into a wide footpath. The path soon exits the forest, where it soon brings us to a small bridge over which we cross a clear stream. The path ahead starts moderately ascending towards the head of the valley, which besides numerous peaks is also adorned by a relatively large waterfall. At the head of the valley the marked path turns left and then ascends above the waterfall in a few hairpin turns. Higher, over bridges we cross several streams, then the path brings us in a few minutes of further walking on an occasionally steeper path to a marked junction. Here we continue right and after a short ascent we arrive at the hut Rifugio Berti.
From the mountain hut we continue right in the direction of "Passo Monte Croce" and "Rifugio Sala" and continue the ascent on an initially gentle path which after a few minutes of walking brings us to the next junction. This time we continue left in the direction of Forcella Popera (straight to Passo Monte Croce) on a path which steeply ascends for a few metres, then becomes completely flat. There follows a few minutes' easy walk at the foot of the peak Belvedere, then we arrive at the next junction.
We continue right in the direction of the peak Belvedere and hut Rifugio Sala (left to Forcella Popera saddle) on the path which in less than 5 minutes of further walking brings us to the mentioned peak.
