Access to starting point:
We leave the Highway A2 Graz - Vienna / Wien at the exit Gleichdorf-West, and then we follow the signs for the settlement Weiz. At the beginning of the settlement Weiz, we take the first exit from the roundabout in the direction of the settlement Birkfeld, and at the next crossroads, we continue following the signs for the mentioned settlement. From Birkfeld, we follow the signs for Ratten; at the end of the settlement Ratten, we turn left onto the road toward the cottage Roseggerhaus, and at the next crossroads, we continue following the signs for the mentioned cottage. After approximately 10 km from the point where we left the main road, we arrive at the parking lot in front of the cottage Roseggerhaus.
Route description:
From the cottage, we go right upwards in the direction of the summit Stuhleck and the observation tower Peter-Bergner-Warte. Immediately above the parking lot, we cross a grazing fence, and then ascend for a few minutes on grassy slopes, from which a beautiful view opens up. Higher up, we leave the grazing area and follow a gently sloping path to reach the macadam road.
Here, we turn left towards the summit Amundsenhöhe (right Pretul and Stuhleck) and continue on the road, which, with a gentle descent, leads us to a small, indistinct saddle between Pretul and Amundsenhöhe.
Here, we start ascending again, and at a smaller crossroad, we go straight. A little further, at a wind power plant, we veer slightly left from the road and ascend on a grassy path to the 1666-meter-high peak.
Description and pictures refer to the condition in May 2023.
