Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Maribor motorway we take the Dramlje exit and follow the road ahead in the direction of Šentjur, Rogaška Slatina and Rogatec. In Rogatec the signs for Donačka gora direct us to the left. Further at the crossroads we follow the signs for Donačka gora and Rudijev dom. A well-marked road then brings us to the mountain hut Rudijev dom, near which we park.
Path description:
From the mountain hut Rudijev dom we continue on a macadam road in the direction of Donačka gora. After a few tens of meters we come to a junction, where we continue right on a cart track which starts to ascend. After a few more steps we arrive at the information board, which marks the beginning of the virgin forest Donačka gora. The cart track then turns into a well-trodden footpath which ascends in zigzags. The path, running through the forest, brings us higher to the memorial plaque dedicated to Dr. Ernst Froelich, who in 1853 blazed the path to Donačka gora. This was also the first marked hiking path in Slovenia. The path ahead quickly brings us to the ridge of Donačka gora, where the path turns left and brings us to the western peak in a few minutes of ascent.
If we wish, we can extend the ascent to the nearby eastern peak, which is 20 minutes away.
