Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana-Jesenice motorway, take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled. In Bled, at the traffic light with signs for Pokljuka, turn right. Continue through Gorje and past the abandoned Zatrnik ski slope to Rudno polje on Pokljuka (large parking lot, barracks and shooting range).
Route description:
At the end of the parking lot, a gravel road branches off to the right, with signposts for Triglav. Head onto this road, which gently ascends and after ten minutes of walking brings us to the Viševnik ski slope. Continue along the road, from which a marked path to Triglav soon branches left.
Continue towards Triglav and after a few minutes of moderate ascent arrive at a forest road, which we follow for just a few meters (until here it used to be possible by car). The marked path then turns right and ascends more steeply for a short while, after ten minutes the gradient eases and the path gradually leads onto steep slopes. Across these steep slopes the path mostly gently descends and increasingly turns right. A bit further, we will notice the Konjščica alpine pasture below us to the left. Our path then stops descending and passes from the forest into scrub. The ascending path leads under steep cliffs and soon reaches a junction where we join the path from Konjščica pasture.
From here a short ascent follows and the path leads to a beautiful little valley called Jezerce, where it forks. Signposts here direct left (right Srenjski preval, Viševnik Blejska koča na Lipanci...), our initially easy path leads to the spring below Studorski preval. Beyond the spring the path gradually steepens, higher up crossing from the left side of the gully to the right, onto grassy slopes, though the path remains rocky. An ascent in a few switchbacks follows and we reach Studorski preval, from which a fine view opens onto the mountains above Bohinj.
Here a demanding path joins from the right from Srenjski preval, and from our path unmarked tracks also branch to Ablanca and Veliki Draški vrh.
From the pass we first descend steeply briefly, then the path turns rightwards, and we traverse the slopes to the left for some time with a few short easy ascents and descents. From the slopes of Veliki Draški vrh we gradually reach the slopes of the massive Tosc, continuing amid fine views past the path branching to Tosc and the junction where the path from Uskovnica joins from the left.
At all junctions, including where the partly abandoned path via planina Zgornji Tosc joins, continue straight; the path gradually leads to steeper and even precipitous southwest slopes of Tosc, where a landslide occurred some years ago, requiring extra caution due to rockfall. A fairly wide path crosses the precipitous section, posing no special difficulties, but when the slope eases a path from Stara Fužina or Voje valley joins from the left.
Continue straight on the broader marked path towards Triglav, heading north along the western slopes of Tosc; the still easy path crosses some scree to Vodnikov dom on Velem polju, the next junction.
Here too continue straight towards Triglav; the path begins to ascend across the slopes of Vernar, becoming technically demanding higher up. Some traversing follows aided by a fixed cable, then we reach a steep step ascended via stone steps with numerous pegs and cable.
Ahead the path levels, the slope eases and near Konjsko sedlo becomes somewhat grassier.
We easily descend to Konjsko sedlo; at the marked junction on the saddle head left towards Dom Planika pod Triglavom (straight Triglavski dom na Kredarici and Dom Valentina Staniča pod Triglavom, right Krma) and ascend quite steeply westwards. For a while we approach Mokra skala (2266 m), then the path turns right onto an indistinct ridge where it levels briefly. Higher the marked path bypasses a small cirque on the right, then turns leftwards. Another approx. ten minutes ascent follows amid fine views of the Triglav massif and surrounding peaks to Dom Planika pod Triglavom.
At the hut take the path towards Triglav via Triglavska škrbina, also called Gorjanska pot. Ahead the path first traverses almost horizontally the high karst basin Triglavski kot where snow lingers much of the year. On the far side it ascends scree to the start of the climbing section. The path climbs steeply aided by pegs and cables. Well protected but exposed to rockfall, helmet mandatory! The final metres below Triglavska or Bovška škrbina are less steep but no less hazardous. The loose sandy ascent demands great care to avoid slipping. At the saddle, where paths from Dolič and Plemenice join, continue right upwards on the steep but well protected path. After a few minutes the gradient eases and just a short ascent remains on Triglav's summit slopes.
