Access to starting point:
A) From the Ljubljana–Maribor highway, we take the exit Rače–Fram, then follow the signs for Fram. We continue through the center of Fram, then begin ascending towards the settlements Kopivnik, Planica and Frajhajm; higher up, we follow the signs for Areh. When we join a wider road, we go left and continue following the signs for Areh. We park on the larger parking lot near Ruška koča na Arehu.
B) We leave the Štajerska highway at the exit for Slivnica and Rogoza, then follow the signs for Pohorje and Areh. The route ahead leads us through Spodnje and Zgornje Hoče, Slivniško Pohorje, and beyond the settlements we follow the signs for Areh. We park on the larger parking lot near Ruška koča na Arehu.
Route description:
From the parking lot near Ruška koča na Arehu, we head onto the road in the direction of Žigartov vrh, Šumik and Cojzarice. After approximately 10 minutes of walking along the road that leads through the forest, we arrive at a marked junction, where we continue left towards Bajgot and the Šumik waterfall (straight ahead: Žigartov vrh).
The path ahead returns to the forest and leads us along a poorer forest road, from which soon a path branches off to the left downward to the source of the Polskava (5 minutes); we continue straight. After some time, we go slightly right from the poorer road onto a cart track that ascends transversely along the slopes of Žigartov vrh. The cart track soon levels out and brings us to a marked junction, where a path joins from the right that leads over Žigartov vrh and is somewhat longer than ours.
We continue straight and gradually descend through the forest; lower down, we cross another forest road. Further on, we mostly walk on cart tracks along the path, which rises and falls several times; at the junctions, we follow the blazes. After a somewhat longer descent, we arrive at the NOB monument, where we reach a macadam road.
We walk along the road only a few dozen steps and the path splits.
To the right, a path branches off towards Šumik and Bajgot; we continue along the road towards Sveti Trije kralji. A little further on, we leave the road and continue along the marked path, where the blazes are rarer, so we carefully follow the better-trodden path, which lower down takes us to a wider macadam road, which we follow to the left. A little further, we go right and follow the blazes again; the cart track, which is somewhat more overgrown in places, brings us after a few minutes to another road, where we go left; at the junction a few steps away, we go right. There follows some ascent, then the road splits; we continue slightly left along the lower cart track path, which has a few more junctions ahead. At the junctions, we follow the blazes; after crossing two streams, we temporarily leave the forest and cross an often overgrown meadow.
When the path returns to the forest, a marked path from the partisan hospital Jesen also joins from the left; we continue straight and continue traversing. Further on, we reach one of the forest roads again and follow it to the right; a little further, we leave it to the left onto a cart track, along which we soon arrive at Majstrova hiša.
From Majstrova hiša, we descend along a macadam road to an asphalt road; when we reach it, we go right in the direction of Sveti Trije kralji.
There follows still about half an hour of moderate ascent along the asphalt road, and we arrive at Sveti Trije kralji.
The description refers to the condition in June 2022; the pictures are from May 2022 and June 2022.
