Scuglielârs - Veliki Karman / Monte Chiampon (CAI 713)

Access to starting point:
From central Slovenia via the Gorenjska motorway to the Hrušica exit and through the Upper Sava Valley past Rateče towards Trbiž / Tarvisio. At the western end of Trbiž we go on the main road SS13 towards Udine. We leave the road before Humin / Gemona dei Friuli and on a local road to the center of the town. Just before it, on the left is the turn-off to the panoramic road, which ascends gently in 34 zig-zags to the agrotourism on the mountain pasture Karman. We leave the road on one of the zig-zags, on which a branch of the steep concrete maintenance road branches off to the left. After 200 meters we arrive at the parking lot in front of the bridge of the torrent Torrente Vegliato.

Path description:
From the parking lot there are two approaches to the saddle Predol above the mountain pasture Karman. The first runs like this: a few meters before the parking lot a rocky path branches off to the right, which ascends in an arc above the bed of the stream Vegliato to a junction (approx. 800 m). To the left a branch of the path branches off, which crosses the bed of the stream Vegliato, where it then joins the second version of the approach to the mountain pasture. We continue on the main branch of the path to the right. On it we ascend in long zig-zags along a steep, shallow gully to the edge of the forested ridge, where we turn left and along a clearing in a gentle ascent continue past holiday cottages to the nearby agrotourism.
Second approach – compared to the first preferable in the case of direct ascent to Veliki Karman – runs like this: the concrete maintenance road from the bridge ahead ascends another kilometer in zig-zags parallel to the gravel bed with dams of the regulated stream Vegliato. Then it ends and turns into a path, along which after approximately 100 m we come to a junction. To the right a small path branches off, which crosses the torrent bed of Vegliato and joins the first version of the approach to the mountain pasture. Our path goes from the junction straight ahead for some time parallel to the torrent bed. Soon this path also splits: the lower branch goes continuously parallel to the bed, the upper turns slightly to the left, but they rejoin at around 970 m. When we reach the nearby saddle Predol we join a wide path, which winds in short zig-zags along the steep slope towards Karman.
The path first winds along the edge of the forest, then in numerous short zig-zags along the ever steeper grassy slope to crumbly rocky terrain at the edge of a precipitous gully. On it we ascend across numerous smaller ledges diagonally left below the rocky outcrop, which we bypass, then with the help of fixed protections we continue across a ledge (passage Gospodična, Passo della Signorina, 1359 m; by the path is a memorial to the deceased Friulian lady mountaineers). From there still across a short, broken and quite crumbly, but not too steep wall, above which we continue across more ledges, then in zig-zags along the steep summit grassy slope straight to the panoramic summit.
