Ski hotel Vogel - Vrh Krnic (below the slopes of Orlove glave)

Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice highway we take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled and further towards Bohinjska Bistrica. We continue driving towards Bohinj Lake (Ribčev laz), where we come to an intersection, where we continue straight along the left (south) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanc and Savica Waterfall. We follow this road to the lower station of the Vogel cable car, then we buy a ticket and take the cable car to the upper station, which is the starting point for our tour.

Route description:
When we step out from the upper station of the cable car, we head right towards the mountain hut Merjasec. We reach it after 100 meters of walking.
At the hut, we take the path in the direction of Vogel, Šija and Rodica. The path first starts slightly descending along a ski slope, then brings us to an indistinct saddle, where the path to Zlatorog branches off to the right. We continue left along a poor road without markings, but we encounter the blazes a little further on. The cart track starts ascending and turns slightly right. A little further ahead, the cart track has an intersection, but the left steep and right gentle paths quickly merge. Then on the right side we spot a cross, where the poorer road levels out and brings us to a trail junction on a small plateau.
We head straight in the direction of Šija and continue slightly uphill further along the transport-rescue road. A little further, the signs for Vogel and Šija direct us right onto a footpath, which soon brings us to the place where we cross a ski slope. There is also a junction, where we head right in the direction of Komna. The left path goes to Šija and Vogel below the slopes of Šija.
Our path now without major ascents and descents crosses the slopes below Orlove glave. The path soon brings us to an unmarked junction, where we take the right lower path. The path ahead still crosses slopes, then starts descending and turns slightly right, giving the impression that we are going wrong. But at the spot where we are almost convinced we are wrong, we join the path from the upper station of the two-seater chairlift Zadnji Vogel. We head left and descend a little further. The path then finds the right rhythm and starts ascending gently. A little further, we reach a junction, where the signpost for Vogel directs us left uphill. The path here starts ascending and brings us over scree to Škrbina, which is the lowest point between Primorska and Gorenjska from Mangart to Črna Prst (excluding Vršič).
On Škrbina, where the path below the slopes of Šija joins us, a view opens onto Primorska. We continue right along the ridge, which is exposed steeply upwards. The hardest part of the path follows: we cross a short but precipitous ledge without protections. Further on we cross a gully, then the difficulties disappear. Below the summit slope of Vogel we cross scree, then the path ascends grassy slopes to the saddle between Vogel and Vrh Krnic.
On the saddle, we head right (left to Vogel) and in three minutes of moderate ascent along an unmarked path running along a panoramic ridge we reach the summit.
