Slovenj Gradec - Poštarski dom pod Plešivcem
Starting point: Slovenj Gradec (413 m)
Time of walking: 2 h 20 min
Difficulty: easy marked way
Difficulty of skiing: no data
Altitude difference: 392 m
Altitude difference (by path): 415 m
Map: Koroška 1:50.000
Access to starting point:
From the direction of Velenje we drive along the main road and just before Slovenj Gradec at the intersection we turn left in the direction of Kotlje, Podgorje, Center. Then we drive straight through two traffic-light intersections and at the roundabout we choose the third exit in the direction of Ravne na Koroškem, Podgorje and park on a large parking lot on the right side of the road.
Path description:
We follow the sidewalk by the main road for 20 meters, where we come upon the sign for Uršlja gora and Poštarski dom.
Over the bridge we cross the river Suhodolnica and head left on the asphalt road towards Stari trg.
In Stari trg we cross the road and continue left along the sidewalk approx. 140 m to the rectory, where at the statue of the saint we turn right onto the sidewalk or stairs.
After a short ascent we again turn right onto the stairs and climb to the church of St. Radegunda, bypass it on the left side and past the chapel that marks the beginning of the Way of the Cross to Grad we arrive at a large parking lot that can also serve as a starting point.
Here we turn right onto the Way of the Cross to Grad, but already at the first chapel we turn left onto the newly renovated path up through the gully.
Here is the nicer part of the path as we can observe smaller waterfalls along the path. When we emerge from the gully we continue straight on the macadam road past two workshops and a small farm, where we encounter asphalt, along which we continue to the intersection.
Here we turn left and descend the road to the Chinese restaurant. Here we reach the main road, turn left and cross it at the end of the sidewalk.
Warning: from here onwards I recommend waterproof hiking boots or shoes with a deep tread, as the path is often muddy and during heavy downpours or prolonged rain extremely difficult to pass!
With nice weather, due to the larger number of hikers, beaten grass is visible parallel to the road leading to a path into the forest; otherwise, after just under 150 m along the main road a forest road branches left. We turn onto the forest road, which quickly narrows into a path. Soon it widens into a presumed former Roman road and to a stone bridge, presumably from Roman times. After the bridge, at the first intersection we go straight ahead, then find a shortcut to the left, cross a forest track and ascend to the parallel path. After a few acrobatic maneuvers over larger stretches of puddles and mud we cross another track and reach the top of the meadow. There we turn sharply left back into the forest, where we begin to descend steeply towards the valley of the Selčnica stream. When we exit the forest we encounter a macadam road that leads us to the Mexican restaurant Saloon. Here we cross the road and walk across the asphalted yard to the wooden bridge over the Selčnica stream. (We can also go right past the little church of St. Miklavž). We continue along the small stream. After a few steps, pay attention to the mountaineering sign on the other side of the stream, as otherwise we may end up on the tourist Path of the Romans (it is possible to reach Poštarski dom along it too, but it is very poorly maintained and quite destroyed). At the sign we cross the stream and follow the path steeply uphill along the slope. When we exit the forest we find ourselves on a large meadow, where we continue towards the single tree in the middle of the meadow. Behind it we can spot signposts, but we head towards the solitary birch standing on the slope to the left. Behind it we spot a narrow path that crosses the slope and passes the edge at the sign for the Path of the Romans. We continue uphill along the corn field, cross the road and cut the bend across a small meadow. Here we have another opportunity to take the Path of the Romans. We continue along the asphalt road to the left, past the little church of St. Rok, where Meškova pot and bar Klančnik join, to the intersection where we turn left again. After a short ascent we reach another intersection, where we turn right onto the cycling path around Uršlja gora. Along the freshly asphalted road we continue straight to the intersection for the Spanžel farm. Here we turn left towards the farm, cross the yard and straight along the cart track reach the meadow. Due to livestock it is possible we will have to cross a couple of electric fences, but let that not stop us, as only a pleasant walk uphill across the meadow separates us from our goal (go along the left side of the forest). For the fast such a walk is worth under an hour and a half, those who prefer a more leisurely pace should count on two hours. From our path, and also from Poštarski dom, many tourist-thematic and mountaineering paths branch off. I mentioned only the three most interesting.
