Access to starting point:
We leave Highway A2 Graz - Vienna / Wien at the exit for Gleisdorf West, and then we follow the signs for Hartberg and Weiz, and later only Weiz. Through Weiz, we follow the signs for Passail. For the gorge Weizklamm, we turn right from the main road towards Sommeralm and surrounding settlements (straight for Passail). The road gradually starts ascending more noticeably, and we follow the signs for Sommeralm. Higher, we pass the cottage Stoakoglhütte, and a little further we reach the parking lot by the road to Sommeralm, where we park.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the road ahead and arrive at the settlement Sommeralm, where we pass by a few houses. At the end of the settlement, when the road turns right, we go near the chapel to the left onto a side road, which leads us past a holiday cottage, then enters a strip of forest, where on the left, eastern side, we cross the peak Saukogel (14374 meters). When we leave the forest a little further, a view opens up on Bründlkogel (1436 meters), and the path splits.
We continue slightly left in the direction of the settlement Passail (right Teichalm), where we bypass on the right side a nearby wooden cottage and, with a view of Schökl, descend to a saddle on the north side of the peak Bründlkogel.
Here the marked path turns slightly to the left, but we continue straight on a cart track which ascends by the edge of the forest. We quickly leave the cart track and, by a wire fence, continue on an initially indistinct ridge, where we cross the fence, and then the path enters the forest through which we steeply ascend for a few minutes. When the path flattens, we leave the forest and then walk along a partly scenic ridge to the nearby peak.
Description and pictures refer to the condition in November 2023.
