Access to starting point:
a) Drive to Metlika and further to Radovica. Cross the small border crossing Kašt into Croatia. The narrow road leads us through small localities into the forest, where we follow the signs for Sošice. When we arrive in Sošice, park at one of the parking lots near the visitor center.
b) Leave the Rijeka-Zagreb motorway at the Jastrebarsko exit and when reaching the roundabout before the town, take the first exit towards Zagreb and Karlovac. Drive all the way to the village of Čeglje, where turn right towards Bregano. Take this road to the village of Krašić and further past the famous church Grkokatolička Crkva Blagovijesti to Strmac Pribićkega, then continue on the main road. The long, ascending and winding road leads through forests and several hamlets. When we arrive in Sošice, park at one of the parking lots near the visitor center.
Path description:
From the starting point, proceed forward along the ascending road. After about 5 minutes, reach a junction and turn left. The right road leads to Hartje and Samobor. At the junction there is a small chapel and some signs. The road then loses its asphalt and becomes gravel. When the settlement ends, a sign soon directs us right onto the trail. The initially cart track quickly becomes a wider path leading through dense spruce forest. The path steeply ascends to a small clearing, where it veers slightly left and levels off. Higher up, it crosses a cart track and ascends again through spruce forest. Then it traverses the slope for some time before entering a gully, which we later leave. The path turns left and steeply climbs to the road, which we follow right. Walk a few minutes along the road, then markings lead left onto a path that cuts the road bend; when rejoining the road, the hut is already visible. A few more steps along the road past a water spring and across a small meadow lead to it.
From the hut, continue along the road that barely ascends the southern slope of Pliješ. Immediately, a path branches left to Pliješ. The road mostly goes through forest and small glades. After about 20 minutes of walking, reach the larger grassy saddle called Sopotske planine, where the path from Pliješ joins from the left; we continue right. Further along the road leads towards Slovenia. The path passes an information board and crosses Sopotske planine back into the forest. It continues descending a small valley to a marked junction, where go left. Slightly right to Sopote. The path soon leaves the forest onto an indistinct grassy ridge with much low shrubbery. Through a forest belt, reach the southwestern grassy slopes near peak 917. Beautiful views south open from the path. The path traverses below the mentioned peak for a while and begins descending again. After about 10 minutes descent, enter the forest and soon a junction, continue left on the steep path. Right: Kekić draga, Stari grad Žumberački and Novi grad, path above water on the western slope of Ječmište, leading through dense forest. The path is occasionally poorly visible and overgrown, but markings are frequent enough. In the upper part it levels and after about 20 minutes ascent reach the grassy summit of Ječmište, where the logbook is on the right.
Description and photos refer to the condition in October 2025.
