Spodnje Danje - Tonderškofel

Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Škofja Loka, and then we continue driving in the direction of Železniki and Tolmin. A few kilometers after Zali Log we arrive at the crossroads at Podrošt, where we continue straight in the direction of Sorica and Soriška planina (left Petrovo Brdo and Tolmin). When the road from Petrovo Brdo joins from the left above Sorica we continue right, and then towards Soriška planina we drive only to the crossroads, where roads towards Zgornje and Spodnje Danje branch off to the right. We continue on the lower road towards Spodnje Danje. After approximately 1 km of additional driving, we arrive in Spodnje Danje, where the described path begins. There are no designated parking spaces in the village. Lately, because of the reconstruction of the road Podrošt - Sorica, it is often closed. In this case, we use the detour by continuing at Podrošt in the direction of Tolmin, then at the first crossroads right. On a quite steep road we arrive in Sorica, where we rejoin the main road towards Soriška planina.
B) From the direction of Baška grapa we drive to Petrovo Brdo, from there we continue left towards Soriška planina. A little after we join the road from Sorica, we arrive at the crossroads, where roads towards Zgornje and Spodnje Danje branch off to the right. We continue on the lower road towards Spodnje Danje. After approximately 1 km of additional driving, we arrive in Spodnje Danje, where the described path begins. There are no designated parking spaces in the village.
C) From Bohinjska Bistrica we continue driving towards Soriška planina, from there we start descending towards Sorica. When after a few kilometers of descent roads towards Zgornje and Spodnje Danje branch off to the left, we continue on the lower road towards Spodnje Danje. After approximately 1 km of additional driving, we arrive in Spodnje Danje, where the described path begins. There are no designated parking spaces in the village.

Path description:
In the middle of the village Spodnje Danje there is a crossroads, where we continue left (right church of St. Marko), after which the road immediately splits into two parts. One runs on the left, the other on the right side of an older house. Behind the house both roads join, and past the last house we continue straight on a cart track which starts ascending through a panoramic meadow. The meadow is slowly replaced by sparse forest, and at some junctions we continue straight. Higher up, the path leads past two smaller boulders, then we cross a grazing fence once again and step onto the road which leads from Sorica towards Zgornje Danje. We follow the mentioned road to the left (right Zgornje Danje), and from it already after a few steps we go right onto a cart track which enters the forest. In the forest, at the first junction we go left, then about a minute or two higher we join the cart track which leads from Rotek. When we reach the mentioned cart track we go sharply right, and then we start ascending diagonally to the right on an increasingly steep slope. Further on, the cart track turns more and more to the left, then quickly enters a smaller valley, through which we reach the forest road which leads from Soriška planina towards Valantov rob.

When we reach the road we follow it to the left, on it we start first gently, then moderately ascending. After a longer left bend the road temporarily straightens, but does not flatten. At the beginning of the right hairpin turn a cart track branches off straight ahead, on which we continue. A little further, on a smaller ridge an overgrown cart track branches off to the right, which leads towards the summit of Tonderškofel, while straight ahead the cart track continues towards the summit of Erbelc.
We continue right on initially quite overgrown cart track, then the cart track turns left and becomes less overgrown. A semicircular ascent follows and the cart track brings us below the summit of Tonderškofel, which we reach after a few steps of pathless terrain.
