Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we take the exit Ljubelj (Tržič), and then we continue driving in the direction of Celovec / Klagenfurt. After the bridge over the river Drava / Drau the road starts ascending steeper, and we drive only a few more kilometers on the main road towards Klagenfurt, and then we turn right in the direction of Žihpolje / Maria Rain. Further, we drive on Göltschacher Straße, which at first leads through the settlement Žihpolje / Maria Rain. The mentioned settlement quickly ends, and the road brings us to the next village Št. Urh / St. Ulrich. Immediately after the mentioned village we will notice on the right side a smaller meadow and nearby a smaller chapel, where the path towards the viewpoint Petelinz begins. At the starting point, there are no arranged parking spaces.
Path description:
From the end of the village, we continue slightly right onto a cart track which continues across the meadow, and it leads us along the right side of the nearby chapel. Behind the chapel, the path enters the forest, through which it first ascends gently, then moderately. Higher up, the path turns slightly right and temporarily ascends somewhat more steeply. After a short ascent, the path levels out, then descends in some 10 steps to a better-trodden path which leads from the village Žihpolje / Maria Rain and the village Resnica / Ressnig.
Here we continue left and in a few minutes ascend to the first viewpoint with a bench, from which the view, due to the nearby trees, is nothing special. From the first bench we continue in the direction of "Petelinz" and begin descending moderately to steeply towards the second, more magnificent viewpoint with a bench, from which a beautiful view opens up towards the Drava River, Borovlje, and the Karawanks.
