Access to starting point:
First, we drive to Kamnik, and then we continue driving in the direction of Kamniška Bistrica and the Črnivec pass. When we come to Stahovica, we continue left (if we come from Gornji Grad or Luče, right) in the direction of Kamniška Bistrica and the cableway to Velika planina. After approximately 50 meters of additional driving, we will notice the Calcit factory on the left side and the marked parking lot next to it. We can also park on the right side of the road in an appropriate place beside the road which leads to the village Prapretno.
Route description:
The footpath otherwise starts by the road Stahovica - Črnivec, but because the parking lot is by the beginning of the road which leads to Prapretno, we just go up the mentioned road. We soon come to Dom LD Stahovica, after which the road for some time flattens. Only a little further, a marked path joins from the right, and we have two options to continue. We can still continue on the road, or continue on the marked footpath, which higher crosses the mentioned road a few more times. Higher, both paths join and through the upper part of the village Prapretno bring us to a sharp left turn, where we leave the road.
We continue on a wide and well-beaten path (direction sv. Primož above Kamnik), which further moderately ascends through the forest. The path then brings us past two chapels and a trough with water to a marked junction, where we continue left in the direction of Velika planina and Kisovec (straight sv. Primož and sv. Peter 5 minutes; continuation to Velika planina is also possible past the mentioned churches; the latter path is approximately 15 minutes longer). The path ahead steeply ascends and after a shorter ascent brings us to the edge of an indistinct ridge, where it turns left (here a path to Kisovec branches off straight, and from the right joins the path past sv. Primož). We continue on a pleasant forest path, which for a short time steeply ascends and brings us to the edge of a vantage point (view of Kamnik and surroundings). We continue the ascent on a moderately steep path, which ascends through the forest on the slopes of the less known Ravni hrib (1204 m) and higher also Pirčev vrh (1373 m).
Higher we reach the ridge right about halfway between both peaks, and the path continues to the right, where after a few minutes of further walking we come to a marked junction, where we have two options to continue.
In dry and firm weather it is preferable to continue on the left lower path, which leads us across panoramic and relatively steep slopes of Pasje peči, otherwise we continue slightly right and follow the path which ascends to Pirčev vrh. The latter path is somewhat longer and more suitable for winter days and for people who fear crossing steep slopes.
Both paths join on the saddle northeast of Pirčev vrh, where we also step onto the next junction. We continue straight (right planina Kisovec) on the path which gradually begins to ascend ever more steeply. Higher, the path flattens and brings us over a grazing fence to the southern edge of the Velika planina plateau. Only a few meters above the grazing fence we cross a wider path, but we continue straight on a somewhat less visible track, which soon brings us to the first huts on the planina. We follow the gentle track, which leads us across pastures, to the memorial to those who died in the crash of an allied aircraft in 1944. Only a few meters before the memorial we continue left (right Jarški dom) and then on a moderately steep path arrive at Črnuški dom na Mali planini in 5 minutes of further walking.
From Črnuški dom we continue on a wide path, which in a few minutes of gentle ascent brings us to a junction, where the path from Jarški dom joins from the right. Here we continue left and in a few dozen steps of further walking arrive at Domžalski dom na Mali planini.
The path then descends into a small valley, where we again step onto a wide path (almost a road). We continue right and follow the path to a poorly marked path junction, where the path to the shepherd hut of Gradiščkovih branches off left. We continue straight on a wide cart track in the direction of "chapel and Zeleni Rob". After a few minutes of further walking, the path to the chapel of Marija Snežna branches off right, initially downward, which we have been seeing ahead of us for some time. Only a short ascent follows and the path brings us to the mentioned chapel.
