Access to starting point:
From the Rupa-Rijeka or Zagreb-Rijeka motorway, drive towards Rijeka, from there follow the signs for Krk island. When the motorway or the expressway ends in the last section, descend to the Krk bridge (toll 35 kuna - March 2014), then continue the drive towards the towns of Omišalj, Njivice, Malinska, Krk, Punat and Baška. At the town of Punat, leave the road leading to Baška and from the roundabout continue right towards the Punat and Stara Baška exit. Continue through Punat, after the town the road first ascends, then begins to descend towards the Škrila camp. From the camp, the road first climbs to the bus turnaround, then further to the town of Stara Baška. At the beginning of Stara Baška, just behind the Stanka pension, notice the mountain direction signs for Obzovo and Veli vrh. This is also the official trail start, but since there are no arranged parking spaces for hikers nearby, park earlier, best near the Škrila camp or drive further past Stara Baška by car and then park at the large arranged parking lot. If parking at the Škrila camp, the trail extends by over 10 minutes; if at the arranged parking lot at the end of Stara Baška, by about 20 minutes.
Path description:
From Stara Baška, where we see the signs for Obzovo, the trail first ascends transversely above the start of the settlement, then leads under the nearby power line. With fine views of Škrila beach, Stara Baška, Galun islet and Cres island, we ascend one level higher, where the trail first turns slightly right and levels off transversely. This is followed by crossing a small valley, where the trail turns left, then ascends transversely over a steep, partly gravelly and partly overgrown scree slope reminiscent of the high mountains of the Slovenian Alps. When the crossing ends, the trail gradually levels out and enters more plateau-like terrain, gradually moving away from the sea. A gentle ascent follows over fairly rocky ground, and we follow the relatively well-marked trail to the Kanjine junction at a small stone fence.
From the junction, continue right towards Veli Hlam peak and Spuhotina junction (left to Obzova via Mala Brestovica junction) along a fairly even trail that continues ascending through the plateau terrain. Follow the well-marked trail to the Spuhotina junction, then go left onto a barely visible and poorly marked path that bypasses Veli Hlam on the left and leads directly to the Lipica junction, where we rejoin the better-trodden and well-marked trail through a narrow passage in the stone fence.
From the Lipica junction, continue left (right to Veli Hlam) and first descend along the stone fence. After a few minutes when the descent ends, we reach a plateau over which we ascend gently with nice views. A little further, cross another small pasture fence, then the trail turns quite illogically right downhill to steeper slopes. Lower down, cross a valley, then begin ascending through rocky terrain. The trail soon levels off and returns to the plateau edge, where on the right side, slightly off the path, we spot a wooden cross. The trail continues past a livestock watering hole, then leads us through the interesting landscape of Krk island to the panoramic summit.
In fog, orientation on most of the trail is very difficult.
