Strada di Foredor - Malga Cuarnan

Access to starting point:
We drive to Humin (Italian: Gemona del Friuli) in Italy. From Slovenia to Humin we can drive past Kranjska Gora, Trbiž (Italian: Tarvisio) and along highway A23 (following signs E55-A4-Udine) to exit Gemona-Osoppo. Toll is 6.20 EUR (as of 2019). Alternative route to Humin is via Vipava expressway into Italy and past Videm (Italian: Udine) to Humin. In Humin (Italian: Gemona del Friuli) we need to find the street with signs "Strada di Foredor", which winds steeply in eastern direction into slopes towards the mountain hut. The street is easiest to find by driving through the center and then keeping to northeastern directions with numerous streets ascending above the town. With elevation streets become fewer and fewer, until only Strada di Foredor remains. Strada di Foredor is asphalted, narrow, steep road which has extremely sharp turns in places. Meeting oncoming vehicles can be problematic, so remember spots where it is possible to pass vehicles. Follow the road all the way to first alpine pasture, on which numerous huts stand. After the alpine pasture there is sharp but wide bend of macadam road, where we park.

Path description:
The path towards the mountain hut starts at the bend, from where, following clearly visible signs, the path ascends through the forest. After a few minutes, the path emerges from the forest onto a clearing, from where a view opens towards the slopes of Veliki Karman and upwards along the path towards the mountain hut. Before the mountain hut, the path joins the access road, which ends at the mountain hut (Italian: Malga Cuarnan). Parking at the mountain hut is not allowed.
