Access to starting point:
From the border crossing Šentilj we continue driving on the highway towards Graz and further towards Linz and Salzburg. We soon leave highway A9 and continue driving slightly right in the direction towards Vienna / Wien and continue driving on the fast road S35. We leave the mentioned fast road at the exit for Mixnitz, and then from the roundabout we go to the exit in the direction of Teichalm. Further, we continue to follow the signs for Teichalm. At the end of the settlement St. Erhard, a road branches off to the right towards Teichalm, and we continue straight, following the signs for Straßegg, Hartberg, Birkfeld, and Gasen. The road then starts to ascend more noticeably, and we drive to the mountain pass Straßegg, where the guesthouse Stroßeggwirt is also located. The designated parking lot by the inn is intended for inn guests, so we park in an appropriate place nearby.
Path description:
From the mountain pass, we follow the path towards Sommeralm and Teichalm, initially walking on a macadam road that soon leads us to a spot with several crosses. We bypass the crosses on the left, continuing on a cart track, which we leave after crossing a grazing fence, proceeding slightly left on a steeper footpath. After a few minutes higher up, we exit the forest, with beautiful views opening up to the right and behind. Next follows a forested ascent and higher up a crossing of a rough forest road, which we later return to. We continue along the road, but at its highest point we leave it and proceed slightly to the left onto an unmarked path, which leads us to a wire fence. At a suitable spot, we cross the fence or crawl under it, then walk to the cross located in the middle of the mountain pasture.
From the cross, we head east and moderately ascend to the edge of the forest, where we cross another wire fence. After another minute of walking, we reach the highest point of the mountain, located within the forest.
Description and pictures refer to the condition in November 2023.
