Access to starting point:
From the border crossing Šentilj we continue driving on the highway towards Gradec / Graz and forward towards Linz and Salzburg. We soon leave Highway A9 and continue driving slightly to the right in the direction of Vienna/Wien on the highway S35. We exit the highway at the Frohnleiten exit, then follow the signs for Weiz and Rechberg. After the settlement Tulwitz, we turn left towards Teichalm. Next follows an ascent through a few more settlements, and then the road flattens, and we reach the Teichalm plateau, where we drive to the Almgashof Angerwirt inn, where the described path begins. Both parking spots are privately owned. The parking lot at the starting point is intended for guests of the inn and the nearby holiday structure.
Path description:
Opposite the inn, by the holiday cottage Almhütte Angerwirt, a macadam road branches off from the asphalt road towards the east, marked with signs for Osser and Buchkogel. We head onto the mentioned road, which initially leads without significant changes in altitude, but after crossing a grazing fence, it splits.
We continue on the left road, marked with signs for Osser, which begins to ascend. For a few minutes, we ascend diagonally, then after a sharper left turn, we go right onto a steeper road, from which we proceed only a short distance slightly left onto a marked footpath. Next follows an ascent through a pasture, where we pass by a cottage, and above the cottage, we climb through a scenic grassy area.
In the upper part of the grassy area, we first cross a grazing fence, then a wider cart track, above which the path enters a forest and gradually becomes steeper. A few minutes higher, at a small crossroad, we cross a side road and follow the trail markers. The path ahead enters a dense forest and becomes even steeper, as it ascends the slope straight upwards. When the forest begins to thin, the steepness eases, and within two minutes of further walking, we reach the summit of Osser.
Description and pictures refer to the condition in November 2023.
