Access to starting point:
From the border crossing Šentilj we continue driving on the highway towards Gradec / Graz and forward towards Linz and Salzburg. Highway A9 we soon leave and we continue driving slightly right in the direction towards Dunaj / Wien and we continue driving on the highway S35. The mention we leave the highway at exit for Mixnitz, and then at the roundabout we go to the exit in the direction of Teichalm. Further, we still follow the signs for Teichalm. At the end of the settlement St. Erhard we once again turn right towards Teichalm, and then we start ascending steeply. When we reach the mountain pasture Breitalm, we gradually start descending and follow the road to the parking lot Rastplatz Heulantsch, which is situated just before the Almwellness Hotel Pierer.
To the starting point, we can also get from the direction of Weiz or Frohnleiten.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we follow a cart track with signs for the mountain hut Stoahandhütte, and soon turn left onto a marked path that runs alongside a grazing fence. Higher up, after a short traverse across slopes, we cross another grazing fence and begin a steep ascent along the grazing fence. For a few minutes, we ascend steeply on a grassy slope, and upon reaching the ridge, we turn right (to the left is the peak Frießenkogel, which is not accessible) and in a few minutes of further walking, we arrive at the panoramic peak Heulantsch.
At the summit, by the cross, we turn left into the forest and begin descending. Upon exiting the forest, a little lower, we reach a cart track, which we follow to the right, continuing a gentle descent to a nearby crossing, where we turn left upward onto a marked path leading toward the mountain hut Stoahandhütte.
The path ahead, on the right side, with scenic views, bypasses Grubbauerkogel (1424 meters), passing two benches. Next, we descend briefly, then ascend through the forest to an indistinct peak, Nestlbodnerkogel (1393 meters), and after passing a bench, we emerge from the forest. A short descent follows along the forest edge. After crossing a grazing fence, from the crossing we continue slightly left (to the right leads downward to Pension Camping Holzmeister), and in a minute of further walking, we reach the mountain hut Stoahandhütte.
We bypass the cottage Stoahandhütte on the right, then ascend gently at first, followed by a steeper climb, initially along a grazing fence and higher up along the forest edge. When the steepness eases, we arrive at an artificial lake near the summit Mooskogel. From here, we first descend gently along a panoramic ridge to a saddle, then moderately ascend to the 1410-meter-high Kulmkogel. We continue walking alongside a grazing fence and soon reach a peak with a cross, where there is a marked crossing.
Here, we veer slightly right (slightly left leads to Haberlstall Alm), and at a crossing a few minutes away, we again go slightly right (sharply left is Haberlstall Alm), then moderately descend to the next crossing, where we turn left (right leads to Teichalm).
We proceed in the direction of Sommeralm, and the path on the other side of an indistinct saddle splits once more.
We continue slightly right (slightly left to Stoakogelhütte cottage), then follows a diagonal ascent through a strip of forest. When the forest ends at a few crossings, we continue straight, or follow the signs for Sommeralm; a wind power plant can also aid in orientation.
From the crossing at the wind power plant, we continue right (left to Plankogel and Stoakogelhütte cottage), then gradually descend to an asphalt road, which we follow right to the center of the Sommeralm settlement.
The starting point - Stoahandhütte 1:40, Stoahandhütte - Sommeralm 1:50.
