Access to starting point:
From the border crossing Šentilj we continue driving on the highway towards Graz and further towards Linz and Salzburg. We soon leave highway A9 and continue driving slightly right in the direction towards Vienna / Wien and continue driving on the fast road S35. We leave the aforementioned fast road at the exit for Mixnitz, and then from the roundabout we take the exit in the direction of Teichalm. We also continue to follow the signs for Teichalm. At the end of the settlement St. Erhard we once again turn right towards Teichalm, and then we start ascending steeply. When we reach the mountain pasture Breitalm the road gradually starts to descend, and we follow the road to the parking lot at the lake Teichalmsee.
Path description:
On the south side of the expanded parking lot, a macadam road branches off towards the west, marked with signs for Gerlerkreuz and Tyrnauer Alm. The road splits after a few steps, and we continue sharply left (slightly right Tyrnauer Alm). The path ahead leads us along a gently sloping macadam road, offering beautiful views of the mountains above Teichalm and guiding us through expansive pastures. After some time, we veer slightly right from the poor road onto a cart track, marked with signs for the Gerlerkogelhütte cottage (the path straight ahead leads towards the Gerlerkreuz cross). Next follows a diagonal ascent on a slightly steeper part of the pasture, and higher up, immediately after crossing the grazing fence, we leave the marked path, which turns right into the forest, and continue straight through another fence, where then on easier pathless terrain and along the edge of the forest, in a few minutes of further walking, we reach the panoramic peak.
The description and pictures refer to the condition in October 2023.
