Access to starting point:
From the border crossing Šentilj we continue driving on the highway towards Graz and further towards Linz and Salzburg. We soon leave highway A9 and continue driving slightly to the right towards Vienna / Wien, continuing on the fast road S35. We leave the mentioned fast road at the exit for Mixnitz, then from the roundabout we take the exit towards Teichalm. We continue following the signs for Teichalm. At the end of the settlement St. Erhard we turn right again towards Teichalm, then we begin to ascend steeply. When we reach the mountain pasture Breitalm we gradually begin descending, following the road to the parking lot at lake Teichalmsee.
Path description:
On the south side of the expanded parking lot, a macadam road branches off towards the west, marked with signs for Gerlerkreuz and Tyrnauer Alm. The road splits after a few steps, and we continue sharply left (slightly right Tyrnauer Alm). The path ahead leads us along a gently sloping macadam road, offering beautiful views of the mountains above Teichalm and guiding us through expansive pastures. After some time, we veer slightly right from the poor road onto a cart track, marked with signs for the Gerlerkogelhütte hut (the path straight ahead leads towards the Gerlerkreuz cross). Next follows a diagonal ascent across a slightly steeper pasture; higher up, immediately after crossing a grazing fence, we enter the forest, traversing the slopes of the Gerlerkogel peak on its right, western side.
We cross in a gentle to moderate descent, and upon leaving the forest, we turn right towards Hubenhalt (left towards the Gerlerkogelhütte hut, 3 minutes). We continue for a few minutes along a poorer road, then soon veer slightly right towards Nechnitz. We continue through the forest, where we quickly reach an indistinct ridge, where the marked path crosses to the other side of the ridge, and at this point we leave it and continue straight along the ridge, initially following a fainter track, but after crossing the grazing fence, it ends. Higher up, after a short scenic section, we cross the grazing fence again, then quickly reach the peak without a view.
