Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, we take the exit Lesce and follow the road ahead in the direction of Žirovnica and Jesenice. After a few km of driving, we will arrive at an intersection, where the road to Žirovnica and Moste branches off to the right (from the direction of Jesenice, to the left). Just a few meters further, at the next intersection, we turn left to Moste (right to Žirovnica). We then drive past the monument to the fallen fighters, where the road begins to climb the hill under the railway track. At the top of the hill, we turn right (at the sign Vila Karin), but we continue towards Završniško jezero and Valvasorjev dom. The road then levels out and takes us to an intersection, where the road to Valvasorjev dom branches off to the left, and we continue straight on the initially still asphalted road. The road soon becomes macadam, and we follow it for approximately 5 km to the parking lot near Tinčkova koča. The road in the upper part is often in quite poor condition, so we can park earlier, for example at the end of the mountain pasture Pri Žagi, where the road turns into the forest again, extending the path by 15 minutes.
Path description:
From the mountain hut Tinčkova koča we follow the marked path towards the mountain hut Dom pri izviru Završnice, and from there we continue on the marked path towards Zelenica. When 5 minutes from the mountain hut Dom pri izviru Završnice the valley widens and flattens, we turn left and through the forest and dwarf pines we reach the marked path Zelenica - Stol. We follow it in the direction of Stol to the right branch of the path upwards through dwarf pines into the cirque Suho rušje. We continue on the path past boulders and at the top of the dwarf pine-covered slope, where the valley narrows, we look for the easiest passage through dwarf pines and scree (visible traces of a small path on it) towards the ridge of Vrtača, which surrounds the valley on the left. We keep to the direction of the saddle in the ridge. When we reach it, we follow the ridge upwards towards the slope with a reddish gully in the middle. Right by the mentioned gully we ascend to the grassy summit ridge of Mala glava, from where we continue upwards and across the grass or for a while longer on the rocky ridge (harder). In between we cross a smaller gully. We keep to the left to reach the ridge, up which we ascend to the fore-summit of Vrtača, and from there along a small path to the summit.
In wet conditions danger of slipping, the rock is quite crumbly!
