Access to starting point:
We drive to Tolmin, and then we continue driving in the direction of Žabče and Zadlaz (turn-off from the main road is located on the left bank of Tolminka). When we get to Žabče, at the smaller crossroad we continue slightly right in the direction of the settlement Zadlaz. In the settlement Zadlaz-Žabče the road temporarily descends, where over a bridge it crosses Zadlaščica, and then again starts ascending steeply on a narrow, but all the time asphalted road. After approximately 12 km from the main road we get to the marked parking lot in Tolminske Ravne, where we park.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we return a few steps back to the red mountain signposts, which we follow in the direction of the mountain hut Koča na planini Razor and mountain pasture Planina Kal. The path ahead first leads over a grazing fence, and then we continue on a cart track which continues through a meadow, from which a nice view opens up on Tolminski Migovec. The cart track soon turns right and brings us to a stone fence, where it splits into two parts.
We continue on the left upper cart track in the direction of the mountain pasture Planina na Kalu (slightly right Koča na planini Razor), which then ascends gently. A little higher, at the older water reservoir we continue right, and then we cross a torrent. We soon arrive at the next junction, where we leave the path leading towards mountain pasture Kal and Tolminski Migovec and turn onto the right cart track, which at the junction is not marked.
We continue on the mentioned gentle cart track and after a few tens of meters we will notice on the right on a tree the sign Škrbina. Later the mentioned cart track turns into a footpath which starts to ascend moderately. Here we will also notice along the path the otherwise quite rare blazes. The path then turns slightly to the left and then steeply ascends for quite some time through the forest in a steep partly rocky valley. The steepness does not let up until we join the path leading from Koča na planini Razor. At the junction we continue left on a somewhat gentler and well-trodden path. The path, which still runs through the forest, quickly brings us to the next junction, which is marked with signposts.
We continue right in the direction of Planina Kal and Krn. From the junction the path again ascends somewhat more steeply and still runs through the forest. Such a path then brings us to the next marked junction.
This time we continue straight or slightly right in the direction of Škrbina and Vrh nad Škrbino, left leads the path towards Planina Kal and further towards Krn. From the junction the path brings us out of the forest and then runs through the valley below Škrbinska plošča. Here the path mostly runs through dwarf pines along the edge of the forest in the direction towards the north. From the path beautiful views open up here mainly in the direction towards Škrbina. Later the path leaves the mentioned valley and turns right and ascends somewhat more steeply towards Škrbinska plošča. The path we are walking on is officially marked, but on this section of the path there are no blazes. The path then brings us out of the dwarf pines and then briefly steeply ascends over scree and brings us to the junction below Škrbinska plošča.
Here we join the more visited path from Koča na planini Razor. We continue left and the path ahead traverses ascending over scree all the way to the saddle Škrbina, which is at 1910 m altitude.
When we step onto Škrbina, a nice view opens up on the Bohinj side, and at the junction we continue left in the direction of Kuk (right Vrh nad Škrbino, straight down Dom na Komni and ski slope Vogel). The path ahead starts traversing ascending over steep slabs, then both the path and the slope flatten somewhat. The path ahead passes below the shorter wall of Vrh Kont, then starts gently descending over occasionally steeper scree. The path ahead on the Primorska side also crosses Podrta gora and Mali vrh, then returns to the main ridge of the Bohinj-Tolmin mountains, which it reaches right at the saddle between Mali vrh and Zeleni vrh. From here we continue in the same direction, only the path from the slopes passes onto the locally exposed ridge. We follow the marked path, which occasionally ascends quite steeply, then with ever better views, all the way to the grassy Zeleni vrh.
From Zeleni vrh we descend on the marked path which starts descending more steeply towards the west. The slope on which we descend quickly narrows and the path brings us to a narrow and somewhat exposed ridge. Here the path flattens, and we quickly reach the saddle, from which we start ascending towards Tolminski Kuk. Above the saddle a short steep ascent awaits us, then the path passes onto the ridge, along and on which we ascend to the highest peak of the Bohinj-Tolmin mountains.

Discussion about the trip Tolminske Ravne - Tolminski Kuk (via Dolina pod Ploščo)

Part of the path between sl 10 and 24 I usually traverse on descent in snow from Kuk, when descending directly from Zeleni vrh into the valley below Škrbina. On ascent there are no orientation issues, but I would warn, IF descending there at sl 24 there is a sign for T Ravne to the right, we must go left towards pl Razor! Also the junction into the gully a bit lower-see sl 22, is poorly visible; very faded inscription on moss-covered rock to the right of the path and small cairn. Otherwise a very useful path that shortens things considerably, as we don't have to detour to Razor planina.
