Access to starting point:
We drive to Tolmin, then continue driving towards Žabče and Zadlaz (the turn-off from the main road is located on the left bank of the Tolminka). When we arrive in Žabče, at the smaller crossroads we continue slightly right towards the settlement Zadlaz. In the settlement Zadlaz-Žabče the road temporarily descends, where it crosses Zadlaščica over a bridge, then it again starts ascending steeply on a narrow but continuously asphalted road. After approximately 12 km from the main road we arrive at the marked parking lot in Tolminske Ravne, where we park.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we return a few steps back to the red mountain signposts, which we follow in the direction of the mountain hut Koča na planini Razor and mountain pasture Planina Kal. The path ahead first leads us over a grazing fence, then we continue on a cart track which continues across a meadow, from which a nice view opens up on Tolminski Migovec. The cart track soon turns right and brings us to a stone fence, where it splits into two parts.
We continue on the left upper cart track in the direction of the mountain pasture on Planina na Kalu (slightly right Koča na planini Razor), which then ascends gently. A little higher, at the older water reservoir we continue right, then we cross a torrent. Soon we arrive at the next junction, where we leave the path leading towards Planina Kal and Tolminski Migovec and head onto the right cart track, which is not marked at the junction.
We continue on the mentioned gentle cart track and after a few dozen meters we will notice the inscription Škrbina on a tree to the right. Later the mentioned cart track turns into a path, which starts to ascend moderately. Here we will also notice the otherwise quite rare blazes along the path. The path then turns slightly left and continues steeply ascending through the forest for quite some time along a steep partly rocky valley. The steepness does not ease until we join the path leading from Koča na planini Razor. At the junction we continue left on a somewhat gentler and well-trodden path. The path, which continues through the forest, quickly brings us to the next junction, which is marked with signposts.
We continue right in the direction of Planina Kal and Krn. From the junction the path ascends somewhat more steeply again and continues through the forest. Such a path then brings us to the next marked junction.
This time we continue straight or slightly right in the direction of Škrbina and Vrh nad Škrbino, while left the path leads towards Planina Kal and further towards Krn. From the junction the path takes us out of the forest and then runs through the valley below Škrbinska plošča. Here the path mostly runs through dwarf pines along the edge of the forest towards the north. From the path beautiful views open up here, mainly towards Škrbina. Later the path leaves the mentioned valley and turns right, ascending somewhat more steeply towards Škrbinska plošča. The path we are following is officially marked, but there are no blazes on this section. The path then takes us out of the dwarf pines and shortly afterwards ascends steeply over scree, bringing us to the junction below Škrbinska plošča.
Here we join the more visited path from Koča na planini Razor. We continue left and the path ahead ascends transversely across the scree all the way to the saddle Škrbina, located at 1910 m.
When we step onto Škrbina, a nice view opens up towards the Bohinj side, and at the junction we continue left towards Kuk (right Vrh nad Škrbino, straight down Dom na Komni and ski slope Vogel). The path ahead starts ascending transversely across steep slabs, after which both the path and the slope become somewhat gentler. The path ahead passes below the short wall of Vrh Kont, then begins to descend gently over occasionally steeper scree. Further on the Primorska side the path crosses Podrta gora and Mali vrh, then returns to the main ridge of the Spodnje Bohinjske gore, which it reaches right at the saddle between Mali vrh and Zeleni vrh. From here we continue in the same direction, only the path moves from the slopes onto a locally exposed ridge. We follow the marked path, which occasionally ascends quite steeply and then with ever better views, all the way to the grassy Zeleni vrh.
On the way: Škrbina (1910m)
