Access to starting point:
A) We leave the Ljubljana - Novo mesto highway at the Trebnje - west exit, then continue driving on the old road towards Trebnje. Soon we will arrive at the gas station, and just a few tens of meters behind it we turn right towards the nearby Trebnje Castle, where we already notice the first hiking signposts. The marked parking lot is located a little above the castle, and we get there by continuing right at the intersection at the castle, then immediately left. A short drive by the castle follows, and then we already arrive at the next hiking signposts, where the signs for the parking lot direct us to the left.
B) From the Novo mesto - Ljubljana highway we head to the Trebnje - east exit, then continue driving on the old road towards Trebnje. Further on, we drive south of Trebnje, and when we are already on the west side of the town we turn right towards Trebnje. A few tens of meters further, at the intersection we turn left and drive over the overpass to Trebnje Castle, where we already notice the first hiking signposts. The marked parking lot is located a little above the castle, and we get there by continuing right at the intersection at the castle, then immediately twice left. A short drive by the castle follows, and then we already arrive at the next hiking signposts, where the signs for the parking lot direct us to the left.
Path description:
From the parking lot we descend a few meters to the mountain signposts mentioned in the description of the starting point, from where we continue in the direction of Vrhtrebnje. The path first bypasses a residential house on the left side, then passes into the forest, through which it first runs on a cart track. The marked path quickly leaves the cart track and turns somewhat more to the left, where it ascends to the overpass over the highway. On the other side of the highway we ascend steep stairs (from here a nice view opens up on Trebnje and surroundings), above them we cross a poor macadam road. Above the road the path returns to the forest and brings us to a marked junction.
From the junction we continue slightly right in the direction of the steep path (slightly left path past Mala and Velika jama), which then moderately to steeply ascends. Higher the well-beaten path levels out and brings us out of the forest at the edge of the village Vrhtrebnje, where the already mentioned path past the caves also joins from the left.
As soon as we reach the asphalt road we continue left into the forest (straight along the road to Vrhtrebnje) and a few tens of meters higher we cross another asphalt road. From crossing the mentioned road only a short gentle ascent follows and the path brings us to Trebni vrh.
