Tržič - Tolsti vrh

Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, we take the exit Ljubelj and follow the road ahead towards Ljubelj and Tržič. Just a few meters before the gas station, we leave the main road and continue driving right in the direction of Tržič. In Tržič, at the Mercator store, we turn right and the road, after a short ascent past apartment blocks, brings us to an intersection, where we continue right. Next comes driving on a narrow road, which we follow for only about 200 meters, then at the intersection we continue sharply left onto an ascending macadam road, which quickly brings us to the church of St. Joseph, which is the starting point for our tour.

Path description:
Near the church we will notice hiking signposts, which direct us right onto an ascending footpath. The path first moderately ascends through the forest, then joins a wide cart track, which we follow to the right. The cart track soon ends and turns into an increasingly steep footpath. Ahead, a relatively steep path that runs through the forest brings us past Mala Mizica (764 m) to Velika Mizica (976 m), where there is a nice viewpoint.
From the viewpoint, we continue on the marked path, which begins to ascend even more steeply. Higher up, the path levels off somewhat and leads us further along a pleasant forest-covered ridge. A little further on, the path veers slightly right from the forest onto the panoramic grassy slopes of Kriška gora (nice view to the south toward Gorenjsko and Škofjeloško hribovje). The path ahead levels off a bit more and after a few minutes of further walking brings us to a junction, where the path from the village Križe (or from Gozd, a steep path) joins from the right.
We continue on a much more beaten trail, which in moderate ascent, initially still partly through the forest, brings us to the summit grassy slopes. Here the path completely levels off and in a few minutes of panoramic walking brings us to the hut on Kriška gora.
From the hut on Kriška gora we continue on the marked mountain path in the direction of Tolsti vrh. The path ahead first ascends gently across the panoramic grassy slopes of Kriška gora, then brings us to the main ridge, from where a view opens onto the precipitous northern side. The path ahead immediately veers right from the ridge, crosses the less distinct peak named Vrata (1591 m) and then moderately ascends along and beside the ridge. The path, from which increasingly beautiful views open up, then brings us higher to a very panoramic forepeak, from which a short but relatively steep descent follows. Further on, the path enters a belt of forest, where it begins to ascend ever more steeply. After a few minutes of steep ascent, we step out of the forest and see Tolsti vrh ahead of us, which we reach after a few dozen steps of further walking.
