Tržiški graben - Veliki Javornik (Ženiklovec)

Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we take the exit Kranj - east and follow the road ahead in the direction of Jezersko. Before we reach Zgornje Jezersko, or more precisely immediately after the inn Kanonir, we leave the main road and continue driving left on a local road, which starts to ascend moderately along the stream Reka. Soon we arrive at a smaller intersection, where to the left a steep uphill road towards Kozji vrh branches off, and we continue on the wider road, which we follow to the next intersection. Here we continue left in the direction of Storžič (right Stegovnik) and continue ascending along the stream. Higher up, in the middle of a sharp right turn, a footpath branches off straight ahead towards Storžič and Kališče, and we follow the road for some more time, or more precisely to the spot where we will notice a mountain signpost with the inscription Javorniški preval 2h 10 min. Here we park in an appropriate place by the road.
The road is from 20.7. to 20.10. CLOSED. When the road is closed we park lower, which extends the ascent by less than an hour.

Path description:
From the starting point we head onto a steep footpath in the direction of Javorniški preval. After a few minutes of ascent, the path flattens and gradually brings us onto a cart track, along which we cross the slopes to the right. Just after the cart track crosses a wide torrent gully, we leave it and continue the ascent slightly left onto an initially parallel mountain path. The path ahead ascends steeply for some time, then turns right, where it crosses a somewhat steeper gully. On the other side of the gully the path flattens and crosses the slopes to the right in a moderate ascent. During the crossing a path from Bašeljski preval joins us from the left, and we follow the traverse path to the junction at Javorniški preval, where there is also the stamp box of the mountaineering club Viharnik.
Here we continue right (sharply left Storžič, left Dom pod Storžičem) where after some 10 steps we arrive at the next junction. The right path leads towards Močnikovo sedlo, and we continue on the left path in the direction of the mountain pasture Javornik. The path ahead continues along a wide and gentle cart track, which for some time crosses the slopes towards the northwest. After a few minutes the forest thins out and an increasingly panoramic path brings us to the mountain pasture Javornik, from which a beautiful view opens up.
From the mountain pasture we continue right (left downwards Koča pr Zdravc, straight Stegovnik) along a moderately steep grassy slope, where initially we can still follow the path, which from the mountain pasture onwards is no longer marked, and higher up it turns into easier pathless terrain. When the track ends, we continue across the grassy slope, which quite resembles a ski slope. We follow this "path", from which increasingly beautiful views open up, all the way to the stamp box on Veliki Javornik or Ženiklovec, which we reach after less than 30 minutes of ascent from the mountain pasture Javornik.
