Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Lesce and follow the road towards Bled, Bohinjska Bistrica, Ribčev Laz and Vogel ski area. We park on a large well-maintained parking lot at the bottom station of the cableway on Vogel.
Path description:
Below the bottom station of the cableway on Vogel we notice a forest road (in winter a ski track), which starts moderately ascending towards the west. The path ahead continues for some time gently to moderately ascending, then brings us out of the forest onto a panoramic slope, from where a beautiful view opens up on Komarča, Pršivec and Lake Bohinj.
After that the road starts turning more and more to the left and becoming steeper and steeper. Higher we continue on a relatively steep ski track, along which a worse and gravelly transport-rescue road leads us all the time. After some time the road or ski track temporarily flattens, then steeply ascends again and brings us to a marked junction, where we continue left in the direction of Ski hotel on Vogel (straight bottom station of the two-seater chairlift Zadnji Vogel).
A little further we arrive at the next junction, where we continue right towards mountain pasture Zadnji Vogel (slightly left Ski hotel on Vogel and mountain hut Planinska koča Merjasec). On the ski track we walk less than 10 minutes and the path brings us to the cheese cottage on mountain pasture Zadnji Vogel.
From mountain pasture Zadnji Vogel we continue slightly right in the direction of Komna and Vogel, but we follow the path towards Komna only another 10 m or so, then a sign on the rock for Vogel directs us left onto a moderately ascending path. The path ahead ascends through a belt of dwarf pines, then descends into a pleasant grassy valley. A gentle ascent follows through the mentioned valley, then the path starts to ascend moderately. A little higher we arrive at a marked junction, where it says left saddle Šija, right Vogel. Here we continue left or right, as both paths join again after a few minutes. From the point where both paths join, only a short ascent follows and the path brings us to the next junction.
Here we continue left in the direction of Šija (straight Vogel, right Komna) on the path that crosses the slopes towards the left. After 5 minutes of further walking we arrive at the next junction, where we continue right upwards in the direction of saddle Šija (straight Ski hotel Vogel). Here the path steeply ascends through a smaller and relatively steep valley, through which a quite gravelly path leads us. Higher stones give way to grass, and the increasingly panoramic path brings us to the main ridge of the Lower Bohinj Mountains, where we continue left (right Vogel). The path ahead first ascends along the ridge, then quickly turns slightly left, where it ascends diagonally across the steeper slopes of Vrh Dlani. Higher the path flattens and turns slightly to the right.
The path ahead leads us past a smaller sinkhole, which we bypass on the left side, then for some time we cross the slopes of Vrh Dlani and later Šija towards the east. When the crossing ends, we arrive at a marked junction, where we continue right upwards in the direction of Šija (left downwards Ski hotel Vogel, straight Rodica). We continue the ascent on the steep path, along which in 5 minutes of further walking we arrive at the panoramic and precipitous peak.
